I can't send any emails -- I keep getting a server error.

Help!!!

it is used for sending email messages between servers. It's most likely an issue with whoever your provider is. Try pinging the server to see if it's down.

Open a command prompt (for Win XP or 2000, go to Start>Run, type cmd. Win 9x, go to Start>Run, type command) Type ping smtp server (substitute smtp server for whatever the address of your server is, for instance smtp.pacbell.net).

To find out the name of your SMTP server, go to Tools>E-Mail Accounts, and look for the name of the outgoing mail server.

If you haven't been jacking with your email settings, the problem is almost certainly with your outgoing mail server.

Most likely they'll fix it by and by...

9. It could be a number of problems.

Can we have the specific wording (including numbers) of the error? It could be anything from a server down to it blocking you as a spammer to your account is deleted to anything. We need more info. Who is hosting your mail?

11. Thanks guys, I fixed it

I was originally with AT&T, who was bought out by Comcast.

My email address changed effective 12/31 to comcast.net.

I went into the options and physically changed the extention (comcast.net) and it's working fine now.

Thanks again!!!

I also downloaded Thunderbird.
