Canada's National Commemoration for Tsunami Victims
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 12:31 PM by yvr girl
Is being televised live on the CBC, CTV and Global networks. It is a multi-faith service. Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Baha'ai and Buddhist. It's very unusual for Canada to have such a religious slant on a national event.

The Prime Minister and the Governor General are in attendance.

1. We're not having one because our pResident is a jerkoff.
He makes me so angry I don't have any better insults than that.

2. So far a cleric from
the Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu faiths have said a prayer and then lighted one candle.

I have a friend who has a theory, that if the victims had been European (read white) that there would have been a service. That's terrible if it's true.

4. Of course it's true.
Many of these people were very poor, also.

If this were thousands of Italians or Norweigans, absolutely this would be a bigger deal.

But only in the US....in France, on NYE they had a long black cloth along the Champs Elysee (sp?) I believe...other countries canceled their celebrations. Not us, though! Did Regis bother to mention the tsunami victims at all? Did anyone else?
