4. Was it from an unopened bottle?
It doesn't keep well. I like it. I aquired a taste for Pedro Domecq when I was in Spain.

That's cooking sherry.
Regular sherry doesn't have salt in it.

13. General Rule: Don't cook with wine you wouldn't drink.
Anything labeled "cooking wine" is not fit for human consumption.

10. "sipping the sherry"--in lots of books--its the "poor man's " wine-or
women.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so! Even the expensive stuff is crap.

On edit -- Is the expensive stuff port? Yuck. And if you really want to lay out some bucks for nasty, try that icewine (spelling?)

15. There is more than one sherry
They range from cloyingly sweet to extremely dry. Stick to the Spanish sherries called Jerez. There's crema, fino, amontillado, seco, oloroso etc.

Just remember which ones you don't like so you can avoid them in the future. My wife and I like the fino. The others are either too sweet or too dry for us.

16. tsk tsk!
I like it. And it's nice for cooking.

I can't understand people who don't like sherry wine (and port, mmmmm!), coffee, or chocolate!! It just is inconceivable!!
