35. Yep - Good ole Dookie V.
Although, to be fair, can we call him a sports announcer? He never seems to notice that there's a game going on in front of him, only seems to be able to talk about Duke, Coach K., and the mighty ACC.

47. Yeah, he's right,
I'm just not interested. I mean, how many times does it need to be pointed out during a game not involving an ACC team?

Actually - I kind of like Vitale. He's got a lot of enthusiasm for the game, I just think it's misdirected to be talking about something completely unrelated to what's happening on the floor.

He talks right over the play-by-play, so most of the time the audience doesn't get details they might like - like who a foul was called on, or how many timeouts a team has left.

17. Local Astros guy: Milo Hamilton
:puke:

Apparently a legend somehow. Never gives a score, never refers to the other team by name (always 'they' or 'them'); applies idiotic nicknames to everyone, is an unabashed homer (uses 'we' as if he's on the field.)

I hate this guy.

21. I never really heard the great Harry Carey in action...
...but the parodies by John Camponara and Will Ferrell had me in stitches.

"You know, Steve, I was up at three a.m. at some greasy spoon - oh, there's a triple play - I had eaten too many jala-pen-yo peppers - Johnson of the Cubs just got beaned, both benches up - finally I got me some Kao-pec-tate..."

24. I did.
They would switch for the middle 3 innings from TV to radio (Harry did 4-5-6 on radio) and one day we were listening and he just started screaming incoherently. We had to go in the other room to see what happened.

It was a fly out near the wall. :eyes:

27. Steve Stone on Harry and seedless grapes
Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 11:13 AM by underpants
I don't remember the whole thing but it went something like

Second inning
You know Steve the other day I was at the market and they had these seedless grapes what is that all about?
Stone: (trying to change the subject) You know the Pirates ptichers....

Harry:I mean how do they get the seed out?

Stone:Harry with one out and a runner on first.....

Fourth inning (Stone thought the grape thing was behind them)
Harry:...and how do the farmers plant the next crop without the seeds?
Stone:Well Harry I am not really sure
Harry:ME either they need the seeds right?
Stone:Yes Harry

Sixth inning
Harry: Did....did they have the seeds in them or not?
Stone (sigh)I think it has to do with genetic engineering (Stone immediately realize he shouldn't have said that)
Harry:Genetic what? What's that all about.....

_______________________________
Pittsburgh used to have a catcher name LaValier (la-VAL-yer) but Harry never got it right he constantly referred to him as LAVAlear. Stone would try to use the correct pronunciation to clue Harry in but it never took.

34. Tim McCarver is the most boring, tedious, long-winded...
son-of-a-bitch ever to sit in front of a microphone. If he ever did know anything interesting about baseball, he has long since forgotten it.
He has got to be polishing somebody's knob to have kept that gig going.

I, and almost every other University of Kentucky fan can't stand this jerk. He just hates UK and we hate him back. Why CantBroadcastSports lets him call any game that UK plays is beyond me.

I am not aware of him hating UK but then I really don't care.

I grew up listening to him do the ACC games. I learned so much just listening to him call games that it boggles the mind.

46. Billy Packer was awesome when he did ACC games.
But when he went national, he really started sucking. He no longer explained the game and what was going on, and just started spewing what all the other color guys did.

He was as good as Dan Bonner - which is why I worry what Dan Bonner will turn into now that he has started doing more national games.
