1. Wow, I didn't think Court would get anywhere near this kind of support
Not surprised about Discipline, a very popular album, but no one's voting for Red? Interesting.

3. Oh, come on, nobody voted for "Red?!!?!"
One of the greatest albums EVER! By ANYBODY!!

I know we're not supposed to vote for bootlegs or specialty items, but my true vote goes out to "France 3-30-74," with its amazing versions of "Dr. Diamond" and "Easy Money." It's available as part of a Japanese Boxed set released by EG records; I got an import copy at Tower Records. I'm a total FIEND for the Wetton-Bruford-Fripp-Cross lineup of KC, though, so your mileage may vary.

6. Maybe some of the Court voters meant to vote for Red, & the mouse slipped
Black box voting, and all that...

I, too, am blown away; I thought Red would be a contender, not one of the "also rans".

11. Well, there's always USA
I may vote for Red; count me as another one who's surprised it hasn't polled better. My kneejerk reaction would be Court or Discipline, though; I think what we're seeing is a shortcoming of not being able to give 2d and 3d preferences on polls.

I'm still kicking myself for not going to the KC/Tool concert a couple years back. Now THAT would have been a helluva opening act.

21. I'll take it for the last minute of the title track (Pt. 1.)
That part where the violin runs on a background of noise and finally breaks into a counterpoint with the distorted guitar, crossing major and tonic minor key passages over each other.

If I didn't move away from the cassette world, that would be one worn tape.

24. If you liked that jam, respin "the construKction of light" ASAP
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 02:38 AM by 0rganism
"Lark's Tongues in Aspic Part IV" is insanely good, beats you upside the head with the craziest explosive prog you've ever heard, and then drops you headlong into the heartwrenching "Coda: I Have a Dream". Much better continuity than "Part I", IMHO, but of course construKction's about 22 years after Lark's Tongues in Aspic...

13. 3 of a Perfect Pair. Older KC is almost as bad as (hurl) ELP
Adrian, Tony, Robert and Bill were quantum, and I mean quantum, leaps forward in vision, imagination and knowing when to shut the fuck up.

14. Wait, I don't see your vote on the poll...
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 03:53 PM by 0rganism
I'd regret running a poll like this where every choice didn't get at least one vote.

You do know that "older KC" had Greg Lake on the bass/vocals spot, right? Some of the ELP similarity doubtless comes from that lineup, for better or for worse.

22. That's the point to Court.
Sure, Fripp and Co. go off on one too many stoned interludes on Moonchild, but Court, Epitath, and Wind are in the same league as anything Yes, the Moody Blues, Procol Harum, or ELP put out. Better yet, there's no lame pseudo-classical passages, the lyrics don't get overly pretentious, and the jams that go on forever mock themselves.

Fripp moved on to other things. Really good things. But Court deserves its place. It only broke a little ground, but it was in many ways a solid part of the body of music that stands like a giant over anything that came later.

17. Debut, and no mistake!!
In the Court of the Crimson King is an ASTOUNDING recording. One of the top 5 albums ever recorded.

Now, here's the thing. NOTHING that I've heard from them even comes close to ItCotCK, not even close. Can anyone recommend something that I should re-listen to? I guess In the Wake of Poseidon would be my 2nd favorite, but that's a very long way behind.

18. That's one reason why KC is so very good: something for everyone
If you only like stuff from the Greg Lake period, then fine. I'd recommend later albums to you, but I don't know what you've already heard, or what you prefer.

You might be able to work your way into the Wetton era by listening to Starless & Bible Black over and over and over again...

25. Has anyone picked up "Power to Believe" yet?
I didn't know KC were doing a studio release this year, same lineup as construKction. Wow.

Then again, I just found out yesterday that Cozy Powell died back in April 1997. It's not at all fair that he's dead at 50 while the other Colin Powell lives on to torment us.
