voicemail/phone message rant

What I got:
Hi, this is Mary Smith at St. Paul's. I know your club meeting is scheduled here for the 14th, but there's a conflict with the Kiwanis Club's luncheon. If you could meet 3 hours later that would be OK, but if that's not convenient could you reschedule for another day? Now the hall will be closed for painting and repairs on the 17th, 18th, and 19th, so those days won't be available. I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be finished by the 20th. At least that's what I was told. And you may remember that the custodial staff is off on Fridays and Saturdays. Anyway, please call me. Thank you.

What I wanted:
Hi, this is Mary Smith at St. Paul's. I have a conflict with your meeting on the 14th. Please call me at 555-5555.

1. I find that people who leave messages like that....

are people who aren't accustomed to getting their messages returned. powerless people.

2. I'm with you.

I know quite a few people who leave voicemails that are two, three, even four minutes long on my cellphone. It drives me batty.
