Look, the last good dem was Woodrow Wilson. FDR was a big government fascist who betrayed all the original principles of the Democratic party, Truman was a charcoal lover; I wish Strom Thurmond won that election, and the Democratic party has turned into one of big government, taking over people's lives.

One of my favorite stories is of Jackson's relationship with the press. Chided for his poor spelling on official documents, Jackson angrily told one reporter, "It's a damned poor mind that can't think of at least two ways to spell a word."

My early teachers taught "Old Hickory," but my older cousins revealed the "Sharp Knife" Jackson. It was a really good early lesson for me in how the textbooks often don't have my best interests at heart.
