I Filled up with 87 Octane today
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 12:08 PM by Jack_Dawson
I just couldn't resist the $1.89 price. Am I going to

car owner hell?

Or...

Is high octane gas just a gimmick to make the oil companies more money?

3. So even though my owner's manual says...
to use 91, I shouldn't sweat it?

7. Use what the manual says
That's what your car is designed to take.

5. most cars will function fine on 87 octane
I think I heard consumer expert Clark Howard say that only 4% of cars actually need higher than 87 octane, but like 22% of people believe that their car is one of the 4%.

6. From what I understand
You should really only use the octane that your car is designed for. I was always told that using higher octane gas than a new car is designed for is just a waste of money.

11. Unless you know a ChemE with experience in this area
who can offer an expert opinion, I'd do what the manual says, especially during the warranty phase.
