what Enigma does.. but i cant seem to find a source of independent hand drumming.. I just found a CD by Kevin Yost "Bongo Madness".. the title cut was GREAT but not worth the cost of the rest of the Rave Music...from what i could tell by the samples.. but i could be wrong..

it is just to darn expensive to shop by purchasing by title..

I ran across a group from the San Juan islands, WA, it was the island with the Whale Museum, i believe it was called 'Thunder Drums'.. it was so good it still haunts me.. i cant find it .

the new Gallictia series on the Sci Fi channel has some really good percussion in the battle scenes..

if anyone can direct me to some good drumming you have my thanks..

i just got a set of 8"/9" bongos and have a set of congas and frame drums..and stuff, etc... i live in the rural heartland south and it is hard to find anyone into that stuff

1. Consider
posting your request again in the Grateful Dead forum.

It might take a while but if you get few responses here, you're more than likely to get some specific feedback over there within a couple days or so.

3. Better late than never
I like a guy named Brad Dutz. I have CDs by him, both under his own name and in ensemble settings. His rhythm is good, and he's not afraid to take chances. Google him, there's a fair amount out there.

I also like a guy named Emil Richards, who mainly plays mallets (e.g. xylophone), but who did one completely solo recording where he accompanied his xylophone tunes with massively overdubbed percussion orchestration-- tuneful and lots of fun.

I'm sure there are others, but they're not coming to mind right now. I'll try and post more later.

4. Baba Olatunji ( sp?) should be pretty good
speaking of Mickey Hart.

Personally I think most African oriented bands have great drumming. And then there is always Max Roach and Art Blakey, or the Art Ensemble of Chicago if you like jazz. Both influenced heavily by African and Carribean styles, I believe.
