Does your DU persona differ from your real world persona?
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 01:17 PM by Section_43
Mine does a little.

I'm not so dumb in the real world and I am a much better speller, when I post I suffer from brain lock to the 9th power.

Thank some god for the huge row of reference books on my left (of course.)

I am often accused of being arrogant and above it all when in actuality I am very shy. I also don't have much trust in anyone until I have known them for some time.

So, from one Smiths fan to another, I avert my eyes elsewhere.

Truth is, most people are surprised that when I have to speak to people at social functions, I'm exceedingly polite. I guess my daily silence leads most people to believe I'm just some jerk, when the reality is quite different.

In private conversations with people I know well, I'm repeatedly told that I come across as open-minded and accepting, well-informed and quite intellectually competent.

In these hallowed halls I've been diagnosed more than once as a complete and utter bimbo, or some kind of tightly-wound petty tyrant of miscellaneous violations; I've been told I "hate gays, ...support slavery, ...couldn't possibly be a progressive, ...have a weak mind,...am an ignorant Fundie, ...am self-obsessed and care more about my lattes than childcare, ...am arrogant about my looks, ...am too underweight to ever be considered attractive..." and the list goes on ad nauseum.

Whatever persona I've projected to garner this level of admiration in DU, I very much hope I don't broadcast the same in my day to day existence.

50. Quiet and intense
I tend to be quiet most of the time, but I can easily get into intense, long-drawn out discussions with a small group of people, say 3 or 4. And of course, 1 on 1 is the medium I prefer.

Art, movies, politics, those are the things that get me going. And I tend to reveal more of myself in those discussions, moreso than someone who just wants to do idle chit-chat. I can do chit-chat, but I have little patience for it. I suppose if I volunteer for the 2004 election, I will have to dust off that skill.

I can be rowdy around people whom I have known for awhile. I have a great sense of humor. :D

63. Trust me on this, I am waaaaay different in real life than I am virtually!
:D

I'm a pained, painful introvert... pained introvert who pains others when I attempt to make conversation! :D

70. Not really. That said I'm a lousy typist so the live version...
...is more verbose.

That's about it, really, that's it, stop looking at me THAT WAY!!!

I SAID: That's it...

72. I am the 'rock' of 'between a rock and a hard place'..ever see the SNL
skit...when each takes a turn to describe their most horrible experience..and every one laughs...till the one guy tells his 'horrible tale'..and they all look at him with disbelief...well here I am...and no..it is no different here than in real life...it is like I was born with plutonioum spoon up my anus???

Oh well as Camus says...you can get used to anything by degree?

75. I'm pretty much the same
I spell better in real life, since my typing sucks. But I would say I am a "what you see is what you get" type person. Have no use for lies; because you then have to remember who you told what lies to!
;)

79. I'm much more reserved
Not with people I know really well, but to most people I'm friendly, but rather aloof in all honesty. I'm not at all shy, but I don't like to get too close either. Here I've said things that in other areas of my life, I'd wonder "what would people think?" and wouldn't say them.

84. I'm a walking mess in reality, whatever that is...
I am always looking for the shortest distance to travel within the singularity. outside of the singularity time passes quickly and distances are longer. Everyone is beautiful inside the singularity, but outside appearances are deceptive. Inside I know the important lessons of the 2000 election shall be remembered briefly and then forgotten. Outside I know it has already been forgotten.

Inside I can post my remarks and still have an intelligent dialogue. Outside most Americans either stopped caring or never gave a fuck. Perception is everything..and yet it reveals nothing.

89. Quite the same, but still no
I'm a very reserved person, an introvert at that. I don't usually ask advice from people, but I sometimes do it here. And I'm nicer at DU... a grumpy shy girl in real life! :-)
