Where should we go on our honeymoon?

As many of you know I was married July 26th. We spent our honeymoon a hospital, and then in a rehabilitation center after I was in a serious car accident. We'd wanted to take our honeymoon in October, but I am still not walking well, have 4 more weeks of physical therapy, and a lot of pain. So we're going to go in January. We can only take about a week, and we don't have a lot of money to spend.

These are the places we're talking about.

Oh, and handcuffs.

And a paddle.

And...

It would be great to get out of the city and go somewhere warm in January.

...get's BIG reviews from me, and I've only seen the California part. I hear the Oregon and Washington parts are lovely too.

Of course, I'm hurt you're not coming to see me. :P ;-)

I still do want to go to Austin again sometime. But Cliff doesn't want to honeymoon there because it will because so many of my friends still live there.

I don't think I know anyone in Sedona anymore.

Living in the area, I'm biased, but around this time of year there are always tourists around to see the colors of the fall foliage. You don't have to go to far from Boston to see it. Hey, while you're at it, you could go visit Lexington and Concord, and see the Lexington Green where it all began.

Just a suggestion. Bring money - my state needs it.

But we ahve to wait until winter, so we want to go south.

I saw "October" and that was it. Oh well, try again next year - the trees will still be there.

In that case, New Orleans is always a party town.

Not sure if you've been there or not, but, if not, it'd be a good choice. You can get a decent hotel right off the French Quarter for not too much $. But the drive from NY might be a bit much.

My husband has never been there. I would love to go again.

If time it right, you can get there before Mardi Gras. MG itself would be a little busy for me, but you might enjoy the atmosphere. Lots of great food, good music, and depending on where you stay, you wouldn't have to walk very much.

I'd look for a cheap plan ticket, but if you enjoy driving that can be part of the fun too.

...for French Quarter Festival. I'd like to go during a more "off" time.

But if we drive up the West Coast, we will see places that neither of us has seen before.

Tough choice.

I don't recommend driving. You will get stiff and uncomfortable after the first 200 miles.... You don't want to sleep and recoup on the honeymoon.

What about a cruise? They have great packages that include airfare. They have medical accommodations, hot tubs, food is easily accessable verses going out looking for a resteraunt etc....

Call a travel agent and see what deals they have.

...but I've never been recovering from a broken butt before. ;-)

I'm kind of turned off by cruises. I really don't like things that are packaged. And I don't like feeling stuck. I think I'd spend the whole time trying to figure out how to escape.

if you're actually wanting to replace a business plane trip with a train, then they're awful - but if you're on vacation, they can be pretty nice - but amtrak always runs hours late. There're some pretty nice tourist trains around, and California supports several lines - they're nominally AMTRAK, but the state funds them, and the one along the coast is very nice...

If you go to Mexico - go to Acapulco. It's a thousand times more beautiful than Cancun with the beach going one direction and the mountains going another direction.

I drove from LA to Monteray a few years back. Wish I'd had my sweetie back then to ride shotgun.

I wonder what we will end up doin. But if we drive up the west coasrt, we'll hit Big Surr.

Mrs. XNASA and I purposely sought a place with some peace and quiet. Somewhere we could be alone. Someplace with no McDonalds or Wal-Marts. And that someplace is---------

Door County, Wisconsin.

But I could never get Clif to go to Wisconsin in January in 100 million years.

And since that's still resonating, it got my vote. The scenery is spectacular -- on every stretch of road you find yourself saying, "ohh, look at that."

But there are some wild cards -- one, it will be January, so you could get into some rain. Two, if you're not walking well yet, you might have some difficulty around Carmel and San Francisco, when you get 'off the flat."

On the plus side, it will not cost all that much, as say, a trip Hawaii.

The Flagstaff/Sedona trip is very nice also, but prime time there is late summer/fall. It will be a bit chilly there in winter.

You have so many good choices -- but make sure you're properly on the mend so you can enjoy your getaway to the fullest!

If you decide on San Francisco, consider making a side trip about 2 hours north to the Napa Valley and stay a couple of days in Calistoga. The town is known for hot springs and spas plus you can go wine tasting all around the Napa Valley. After your accident, the hot mineral water baths, massage and other body treatments should feel especially good. Here's a link with some info:

Last time we went (a few years ago) we tried the Lavender Hill spa and it was wonderful (aromatherapy bath and massage package). Re the mud baths offered at many of the spas - they may or may not be to your liking. Imagine yourself up to your neck in a boiling hot tub of sulphur-scented gunk the consistency of oatmeal. We found it a little overwhelming, and not fun if you are at all claustrophobic (you can't move very well). And the mud (a mixture of volcanic ash and peat) gets EVERYWHERE. You could be picking momentos of your trip out of various bodily orifices for a couple of weeks afterwards. But that's just one of the treatments you can get.

Driving up the Pacific coast to Washington (more specifically the Northern Cal to Washington part) would be a fantastic trip, but I would recommend it later in the spring, or in the fall, unless you're into storm-watching.

This morning we were leaning New Orleans. Now I think we're leaning San Fransisco.

I told my DH that DU is voting on our honeymoon. He just smiled. He's so good to me.

it's breathtaking, really. Great people, fantastic scenery. I've done it several times. It's one of my favs.

It's cheaper then you would think. And I think it's romantic.

But I'm afraid to fly that far.

Is The Cowboy Club still there, the one that took over that local bar that everyone loved in the early 90s? I used to work there.

A big bunch of us went for the weekend; I just don't remember much about it; fuzzy, very fuzzy . . .

I've been there for a couple of days on my backpacking trip this past may-june and I must say it is the most romantic city I've ever been to. Just beautiful lots of things to do...couples everywhere along the Siene River...man...I had to leave the city just because it was depressing being there alone and not with someone I cared about. Even still I was floored by the city...I'll return one day when I'm in love with someone.

I think it'd make a great place to have a honeymoon. Kind of on the expensive side though.

How about Maui, and every DUer with +1000 posts goes along to assist you?!

My mom wrote to her about my accident and hospital wedding. If more people write, maybe she really will put me on the show and send us on a honeymoon. I think we deserve it!
