Are Your Childhood Heroes Still Your Heroes Today
My childhood heroes were Muhammad Ali, Dr, King, JFK , and RFK....

It always used to bring a smile to my face when I would go to my African American friends homes and see the ubiquitous painting of MLK, JFK, and RFK.......

2. Randolph Scott
When I was a young boy Randolph Scott was my ideal vision of what a man, a real man, was. Strong, quiet, effective, not modest but not boastful either. He just seemed more real to me than Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) or Roy Rogers or even John Wayne. I could never grow up to be them, but Scott? Yeah, I could do that.

Of course this was just the silver screen image of the man.

By the time I learned he was gay I was long past childhood but the irony of it did not escape. Fortunately, I never actually hated/feared/disliked gays so it wasn't as much of a blow as it might have been to others but it was still a jolt.

Still my ideal image of what a man could be but I'll never be able to think of him as Randy. ;^)
