Anyone here use VOIP/Internet Phoning?
I'm thinking of trying Lingo. I know that Vonage has the edge in quality, but I hear their customer service is terrible. Plus, Lingo includes calls to Western Europe in their $20 plan. I have a brother in the UK and my dad in Switzerland. Both my wife and I have cell phones, so power loss isn't an issue.

I tried VOIP through Net2Phone a couple of years ago, but it sucked--you had to use a headset mic through your computer, and there was a terrible delay on the signal. Now, you just plug a regular phone into an adapter that's attached to your cable modem.

So, should I take the plunge?

Thanks!

1. Check out Skype
I have a friend in Europe who uses it and loves it. It's from the folks who created Kazaa.

2. I currently have Vonage AND Lingo
I have been with Vonage for almost 2 yrs. Their customer service is pretty decent. Unless you have a really bad problem, and then you are pretty much on your own. My mom signed up for Vonage, got two bad routers and decided to can them -- she's going back to Verizon land line.

Lingo, is cheaper, but their sound quality is not as good as Vonage (Vonage must have some kind of white noise filter?) Lingo also doesn't have call waiting caller ID yet, which I really like with Vonage. Lingo is the one that has a local exchange in my area code, Vonage doesn't. Lingo has free calls to Europe which is great for my hubby to call his family in Germany. Decisions, decisions.

I haven't decided which one to keep yet....email me and I can give you a referral, think you get a free month. -48%er

3. Cool. Is lingo good enough to replace a landline?
I'm kind of a techno geek, but my wife isn't. In other words, I don't mind messing with something if it doesn't work perfectly. She, on the other hand, doesn't want to have to think about it--if she picks up the phone, she expects a dial tone.

Thoughts?

4. One last question: which phone?
From what I understand, one's actual equipment does make a difference as far as call quality is concerned. At the moment, I have a shitty, cheap Panasonic phone. If I'm to take the VoIP plunge, can anyone recommend a phone?

Thanks!
