Is a bad childhood good for the adult?
I had a shitty childhood, but as an adult I'm way more adaptive then people I know who have not had to endure a thing. On balance, I think I have more perspective, at least most of the time.

My kids have had the childhood I wish I'd had, but they don't have the insight I did by the same age. They don't have passion, they are like the people I don't understand.

What is the benefit to adversity?

2. Adaptability and self-reliance
You kids didn't need some of the skills you had to acquire because they had you and that's a good thing. The lack of passion is something I've also noticed. I wonder if it's because they don't have to expend much energy for gratification.
