My wife thinks I should wear WHITE socks with my Khaki pants...

I think that is so dorky... what color of socks would you recommend? is it okay to wear white socks with khaki pants and brown leather shoes?

black is much better with khaki... white socks stand out like a sore thumb. What, is your wife trying to me you look like a geek? ;-)

but I always thought it was a complete no-no to wear white socks with anything except sneakers.

Match socks to the shirt, if possible.

Trust me, I used to sell men's clothing. The socks are considered an extension of the pants. Wear khaki colored socks.

I match my socks to my pants, generally. White socks are for athletic shoes or hiking boots.

ie. my wife threw away, pair by pair, all of my white socks inside the first two weeks after we moved in together out of fear that I might one day be forced to wear white socks in public because all my coloured ones were dirty.

A true story, even if somewhat incredulous. Anyway, she was right. White socks should only be worn with pyjamas, and even then only in the dark. I'd go for dark socks at all times: A certain winner! ;)

It's a hue thing.

If you're up moving around, you can't see them...and if you can, you need to get some longer pants. Wear whatever you want. Why is it such a big deal what color socks you wear?

(yes, that's formal for me) I wear tan socks and brown shoes. When I wear them as regular clothes, I wear white socks - but, and this is key, because I wear running shoes with them I believe that I am covered under subparagraph 12(c)(iii) of Article 52 as appertains to the wearing of white socks with athletic shoes.

I am, I realize and admit, not likely to be profiled in GQ as exemplifying the 'new look'...or, indeed, any look at all other than perhaps near-40 surfer dude (who doesn't surf) or Jimmy Buffett tribute artist.

I will never, however, wear black socks with either sandals or perhaps with any form of bare-legged shoes.

I also pledge not to adopt the white belt with powder-blue slacks look as I age, though if you accost me with this pledge fifty years from now at the DU retirement home on South Beach (yes, GOPisEvil and I will still be scoping out the local female presence with our binoculars) I'll feign memory loss.

I actually prefer "sweatshirt gray" athletic sox.
They look OK with khakis too.

Though white athletic socks will eventually turn sweatshort gray, anyway, at least if you're suffering from bachelorism or living in similar manner. :-)

I'll still be wearing my running shoes. They're a trademark look, you see - I need them to stay ahead of the shotgun-equipped fathers of the 20-year-old daughters who've succumbed to my considerable charms.

DO NOT wear white socks with anything unless you are also wearing white shoes.

One of my grad school professors had the nerve to wear white sport socks with some black low-quarter Skechers/Doc Marten-like shoes. OFTEN. I can't tell you how many times I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO tempted to buy him a pair of dark socks for a Christmas or birthday gift, to send a message. However, I never acted on such impulses; although he is my friend as well as my professor and a member of my doctoral committee, I do not think that he would have appreciated it.

But i'm gonna have to go with "not white". Perhaps green, so you've got an earth-tone thing going on?
