Has anyone heard the new Rufus Wainwright CD?
I live in Philadelphia which is turning into Corporate Retail Chain Hell.
I could buy Wainwright's Cd at Tower Records or Borders. I decided to buy it from our local independent gay and lesbian bookstore, Giovanni' Room. However, Giovanni's Room hasn't received it yet. I'm really trying to hold out until they do. I used to work at Borders and I'm boycotting it. Don't know much about Tower Records but I don't like the idea of that being my only source for new music. Anyway, have any of you heard the new CD?

1. It is brilliant

I mean it. Absolutely one of the best pop CDs of all time, IMHO. I didn't think he could top "Poses", but he did. Really powerful, powerful stuff.

I ordered it from Amazon 2 weeks early, and got to listen to the whole thing off of their website early. But now that's expired, and my CD still hasn't come! :grr:

I mean it though, everyone. You owe it to yourselves, if you like intelligent pop music at all, to pick up this CD.

I think you can still listen to some tracks from "Want One" at www.rufuswainwright.com.

3. OK, I'm getting more excited now
...but I need to not break down and buy the CD from one of the "chains".
I haven't even heard any tracks from the new CD yet but judging by what he's done in the past I'm sure I will like it. Must...resist...urge...to...buy...from...Borders.

4. My friend Kurt claims that if I don't buy it
he's going to cause me pain in a manner not suitable for discussion here.

Anyway, point is, he says it kicks ass and that you should buy it.

5. I love Rufus!
He's got great style, I love his voice.

The Tower on South Street--yeah, it sucks to support a corporate chain--but at least they still have the surly, tattooed, pierced, fuck-you attitude clerks that are becoming a rare breed in record stores. I like that touch of authenticity. :)

Where do you live in Philly? I'm moving back home to Philly in November.

7. Hey, we could have a DU Rufus listening party!
I'm right outside of Philly in Bensalem, and there are other great DUers in the area, like LynneSin and Ramsey.

8. I live at 21st and Sansom
So I'm closer to the Tower on Broad St--which is too damned big, IMO. Borders is now right across the street from the Broad St. Tower.

6. Get this CD,
listen to it, and then come back and we can go on and on about how the song "Go Or Go Ahead" may be one of the best 6 minutes of pop music ever.
