But, I cannot believe Mr. Bush supporter wrote lyrics like that.

till I found out he and Toby Keith were big supporters of Shrub. Funny thing is though Sammy speaks out about war. He actually said "I don't believe in war or taking anyones life". He's quite a mixture of beliefs.

If he feels the way about war that he expresses in this song and on his website, why in the name of God is he a jingoistic Bush supporter?

I used to be a fan too. Several things soured me on him though.

1. I got into Rock music and I liked his stuff solo and with Van Halen when I was 8-10 years younger than I am now. But, as I started to really discover the Roth years of VH in more detail and pretty much got converted to the belief that the original Van Halen is THE Van Halen. Van Hagar was nothing in comparison.

2. I found out he was a Bush supporting Republican who hangs out with Toby Kieth.

3. He and the VH boys really dissed on DLR not respecting what he brought to the table when he was in the band.


About the only things I want to listen to these days with Hagar in it are the first Montrose album and the song "Little White Lie".

I still listen (a bit) to Van Halen and David lee Roth. I find it really hard to listen to Hagar and the 'attitude' songs of Toby Keith and the likes. I guess, people have a right to have their opinions it's just a shame that folks like Toby can stand up and sing 'kick ass' songs after 9/11 and be held up as some kind of singin' hero. I'm rambling .. but I hope you know what I mean.

toby Keith spoke out against ABC and their 'censorship' of his "courtesy of the red white and blue" song. Peter Jennings was hosting a july 4th show and heard the song and took back an offer to have TK sing it in the special, .. anyway there was quite a cafuffle because Peter Jennings is Canadian ... FUNNIEST part of this is .. TK said " I bet Dan Rather would have let me sing it if he were the host" .. hah. wonder what he'd say about Dan now ..
