I walked out of a Furniture shop cause they were playing Rush Porkbaugh
I've been looking to get 1 or 2 bookshelves for my apartment so I can do something with these excessive piles of books I own. I had noticed a used furniture place right new where I work (mainly office furniture) and I saw a really nice bookshelf in the window that was big enough that I wouldn't need a second bookshelf.

So I thought I'd walk in and check the place out. As soon as I walk in I could hear a certain shrillish voice whining about how the media has distored what he said and he stands by his comment. Then it dawned on me - I'm listening to Rush Limbaugh

:wtf:

The guy came over and asked if he could help me. I asked him if that was Rush Limbaugh he was listening to and he said "Yes".

My answer - sorry can't do business here then and I left!

1. Good for you!
I thought PigBoy had the day off today. Were they playing "The Best Of R*sh" or something?

2. I do the same thing...
If I see FAUX news in a business place, I'll leave. And it's important to let them know you don't appreciate baiting, partisan politics in a place of business.

That's just business 101.

3. good job!
The irony is many Rush listeners fancy themselves as business-savvy, but if they had real business sense, they'd know that Rush alienates more of their customer base than not. Guess they don'tcare about sluggish sales in this economy when they allowed you to take your business elsewhere!

A parallel experience a few years ago - I was at a nursery that posted a "This Is A Clinton-Free Zone" poster (a bar and circled pic of Clinton) at the cash register. I put back all of my selections and left. How dumb to alienate ANY number of customers.

4. If you saw this store, the guy ain't "Business Savvy"
It's a junk dealer of office furniture located in a crapy section of Wilmington. BTW, if I had seen that Clinton-Free zone poster, I would have left my purchases right there. Let them work to put the stuff back

5. Way to go!
Those folks need to be called out for their anti-business, anti-social behavior. I did that in an antique shop 3 or so years ago. Had 100$ worth of books in my hands on a very slow and cold day - would've paid her heating bill for a month. At the top of the hour the radio switched to Rush. She didn't switch it. I asked her pointedly if she listened to "that hate radio crap". She said she never missed him. I told her that I couldn't do business in a shop that broadcasted hate radio and if she would like me to reshelve the books or would she. She was sputtering as I left.

7. I never went back to a barber shop...
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 02:21 PM by GainesT1958
Where my (formerly) favorite stylist was a new addition to the team, because the owner had Rush on. What a NAUSEATING way to spend time getting your hair cut, I thought! :puke:

So I never went back there--I even said something to my stylist about it. She agreed with me, but noted "Hey, it's Joey's shop; can't really do anything about it!" I figured she was too new there to have leverage to in fact "do something about it", so I let it--and her--drop. Damned shame. Because of Joey's insistence upon listening to that big, fat, narc-hooked idiot, he lost a customer he would've had for quite awhile (as the shop is right down the street from my house).

Nothing beats the power of good-old free-market revenge (boycotting) to teach intractible business owners a lesson. Good for you for letting the furniture store proprietor know that, LYNNESYN!

:kick:

I won't gloat over all these generous doses of sweet revenge coming our way lately, but I'LL STILL ENJOY THEM! :7

B-)

8. Great!
I do the same thing. A few years ago I 'volunteered" for lunch duty at my kids' school. I went and took the student's money and served the food. The school made a lot of money through this. However, the downside was that the long time employee listened to Rush. So you volunteered and had to listen to his hate Radio. No more. We said we would not volunteer if we had to listen to that. It's gone.

9. Awesome!! I boycotted an Oasis Market near my old house for that reason.

The manager would always have Pigboy blared in the store in the morning. I told him that I didn't want to listen to any right-wing hate radio when I'm getting my Mello Yello in the morning (this is back when I was in tech school). So I also told him that he was alienating a majority of his potential business (this was a very liberal neighborhood, too), and that I wouldn't be shopping there if he kept Rush on the store radio.

He really didn't seem to care. He was an old, bitter curmudgeon who had suspected me for shoplifting before, probably because I looked young and had olive skin and a moustache. I never went back since.
