DU PC Gamers. I'm looking for a new game. Any advice?
My current favorites are:
Civ III
Deus Ex
System Shock
Battlefield 1942

In the past, I enjoyed Panzer General II a lot.

So, I'm into war games, FPS/RPG, and strategy. I'm really not into multiplayer games, so I'm looking for something I that's best just going against the AI. Any suggestions?

1. I've heard great things about Rise of Nations....
also Age of Empires.

If you are looking for something different and yet oddly addictive, try The Sims.

Sounds like something you might really enjoy.
Or the new one "Clean out the FlowerBeds and Garden". Man, that one is hot!

Neither are Dirty Dish Derby, Loads-o-Laundry, Catbox Shuffle, or Tidy Bowl Man III.

Ain't that a shame. :+

5. SOON ...UFO : AFTERMATH
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 03:45 PM by Kamika
THE G A M E, will be released shortly (tomorrow in the uk ill try download it)

http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/headquarters.html

Its a follow up to the old x-com - enemy unknown

Basicly you control a resistance after aliens have invaded earth, you control the research, management, and the best part you control the military in detail, your soldiers get better the more they do etc etc.

When you get a first contact you deploy your soldiers, and have to capture/neutralize the aliens, its a turnbased rpg strategy game.

The more missions you do the more alien artifacts you get, you order your scientists to research these and you get better and better weapons, until (atleast in x-com) you manage to capture enugh live alien leaders and find out where they come from.

quote from their site

"UFO: Aftermath combines global strategy with small squad tactical combat in the fight against an alien invasion. It features run-time generated tactical missions, completely in 3D, with innovative simultaneous action combat, strong RPG elements and strategy game on the planetary level. "

This will probably be the first game in a long while i actually buy

51. Mine should be in the mail tomorrow
But it is a clone, not a sequel. The right for the XCOM series are in the posession of Sid Meyer's Firaxis; they have not yet decided if they want to actually make a sequel.

And as someone jobbing in the business: use your download only for evaluation purposes please. Playing a game is a privilege, not a right.

Im downloading it as we speak, and if i like it ill definetly buy it.

I havent bought a game for a LONG time because imo games lately just sucks bad. Last game i bought was monkey island 4 i think.

Ill probably buy aftermath , and most definetly buy knights of the old republic, first game in a LONG time lucasarts have done that is good.

Do you work for a gaming company?

To download games is imo the best thing that happened, ill no longer buy a totally crappy game, for example, i LOVE fallout and im a fallout2 fanatic, so i thought lionheart would be INCREDIBLE, well it was so bad.. why did they have to have diablo style.. anyway one game downloading saved me from.

8. Grand historical strategy
If you like Civ III, a more historically accurate (and interesting, from my POV) strategy game is Europa Universalis II. I think it's selling for about $10 right now, if you can find it. There's also a new version of it with an expansion called Crown of the North - I haven't tried that yet, so I can't say anything.

24. re: "Is This Turn-Based or Real-Time?"
It's real time, with a dynamic speed function (very slow/slow/normal/fast/very fast), and a pause. The website is www.EuropaUniversalis.com - I'm not sure that it's got a very good description of the game, but check out the reviews at www.metacritic.com to get a better idea of it.

9. Sorry
I'm too busy playing Civ 3 right now. The Romans have acquired nukes, so my hands are full. My husband just discovered Battlefield 1942 and he's nuts about it. Normally, his evenings are spent with Ultima Online.

He and I frequently turn to each other and say, "Wouldn't it be awful if one of us hated computer games??" It's made for a happy 18 years of marriage!

Happy Gaming!

Seriously, it could possibly have some of the greatest AI in a game...ever. I've seen a preview of it, and they had a part where they showcased AIs for allies and enemies - I was thoroughly impressed, which is quite a feat (i'm not impressed with a lot of games, even though I end up playing them :))

Now they have to rewrite part of the game to keep cheaters and hackers out. I guess it'll take a few months now to get back on track.

I think it's called Conquerors, it has a bunch of new add-ons and enhancements.

Also, Warlords IV is coming out later this month, it's a turn-based fantasy wargame, its predecessors were very good.

Very addicting game. The on-line play is free, and they have custom games that you and other gamers make, so you can basically play any game online for free.

There's well over 1000 custom games made by players, and the regular ladder play is fun, too. BNet will take major chunks of your life away before you no it. It can be that addicting.

35. Counter-strike
is like the crack of FPS. It IS a multiplayer game... but they have advance bots coded that you can download and play against at any time.

It's a good investment. I would recommend it, as the single player Half Life game (the game CS is a mod of) is one of the best FPS ever made.

I would also recommend Myth II: Soublighter for a good (CHEAP! 10$ Target title) strategy game. Really pays itself off.

Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament 2k3 are very good, they are both games you can play with bots (included in the package (UT 2k3 requires a good setup, but so does BF1942, you're probably fine)).

Serious Sam is a good single play FPS. Very different and it's probably cheap by now.

OH AND! Halo just came out for PC. I only have it for Xbox but Halo is gaming excellence! Highly recommended!

The second half was nothing but cheap hack-n-slash. If you like Diablo, which I don't, then that may not matter much. Its like they ran out of ideas halfway through and threw in tons of fights to make the game longer.
