James Garner is No Republican! Just appeared on Jay Leno...
And talked about what a bad day today was.

Why? "the inauguration."

Leno: "You're not a republican, then,"

Garner: "No. I think the Donald Trumo wedding would be more interesting."

Yay! I knew I'd been in love with him since I was five and he was Maverick for a reason! I've always thought he was the ultimate male.

and can 'safely' say such things....what's the 'ultimate male' gonna do about it????

on edit: a rhetorical question....not directed at you personally.

4. I think he did something about it tonight. I don't know whether he's done
anything about it in the past. Unfortunately for me, I'm not in contact with him. I don't think it's fair to assume he hasn't done anything, contributed, or whatever else he might be up to.

The Democratic party doesn't seem to think we're in the majority, even if I do, too.

2. Leno assumes alot
when he assumes all Republicans are happy with today's events.

5. Leno made no such insinuation, and it seemed obvious that it was
set up to play out the way it did. Leno seemed to be a willing conspirator. I've seen him do this many times before.

7.  "You're not a republican, then,"
If that is what Leno said in response to Garner's saying the inaugural translates to a bad day, the insinuation is that ALL Republicans are happy with Bush as President. Set up or no set up.

What am I missing here?

3. YAY - after learning Doris Day was repug I almost gave up hope
on a lot of my favorite old stars! Now that I can't buy the Frasier dvd - jerk! I ask you - how many repugs could that show possibly attract?

6. Good point. And I don't know why I had a previous impression that
Kelsey Grammar was liberal, from something he said once upon a time. Doris Day, I think. still has her brain stuck in the fifties, when Republicans were the "good" party, and oh, hell, that's their story now.

27. nooooo! Not Doris!
Though I agree, I think she might be assuming the repugs today are the republicans of the 50s... I wouldn't have been a republican if I were voting then, but I sure as hell have a lot more respect for the "old" republican party than what it has devolved into today.

And, Doris is a HUGE animal rights activist so I'll cut her some slack and just assume she hasn't kept up with the news.

31. That's kind of what I was driving at. I know my mom was stuck in that idea
until I made a convert out of her. Same age, roughly. And Doris has done a lot for animals, and I bet if somebody got some important differences out to her, she might change her mind, if it still functions well. Nothing nasty implied by that.

8. Garner appeared on Charlie Rose's show a couple of years ago
and compared El Douchebag to a temperamental 5 year old.

10. Garner is an active, liberal Dem
check newsmeat. He also gave big bucks to Big Dog's defense fund.

Somewhat strangely, or maybe not, is the fact that SamElliott, the guy who took over the "Beef, it's what's for dinner" commercials after Garner had heart surgery, is also a Dem.

Now there's a couple of guys who are really worth having a beer with...witty, articulate and easy on the eyes. Neither one's afraid of horses, I might add. :9

32. Oooo! You are lucky. My brushes with them have been not
completely direct. Garner came to a restaurant in Santa Monica once where I was having a mid-afternoon lunch with my husband, we were the only people there, when in walked James Garner to have lunch with a friend. They seated them in the table opposite and dirctly next to us, so I was seated in such a way that if I looked up, I'd have to look at him, a tough thing I assure you. I'd been in love with him since I was five, but actually didn't want to stare at the guy. He nodded and smiled at me as he came in, and then was relieved when we only smiled back at, and didn't invade his privacy ala Lucy with William Holden at Sardi's, I believe. He sweetly flirted with the elderly waitresses, who were about 25 years older than he, at that time. Sam Elliot lives in Malibu, and is very much a horse person, allright. He used to come through the hills to load up his trailer at the feed store in our town, where I also shopped for my equines at the time. The owner told me how great a guy he is, and that he used to insist on helping load the hay bales himself. I'm also glad to find that he is a Dem.

34. I'm pretty sure...
both one of them would have been gracious if you had approached them. They are both too gentlemanly to be rude.

When I lived in Malibu, Jim used to frequent our little piece of the beach. On the 4th of Julys, he'd set up a little fireworks for our kids. I did my 'swan song' film with him and the last day of production he showed up at my truck with a paper sack. It was a bottle of wine from the place he used to have in Ojai - "Chateau Jimbo".

I did 'Yellow Rose' with Sam. He and I plotted to get a certain director drunk one night, thinking it might improve his disposition. Trudging over the hills of Lancaster the next day in the heat was 'excruciating'. Along with his lousy personality, the director had an unusual capacity for booze.

I really mean it when I say I was lucky. I loved my job and had some great experiences doing it.

16. James Garner has always been a Democrat and
a damn fine actor.

Favorite movies with Jim in them: The Americanization of Emily w/Julie Andrews; Murphy's Romance w/Sally Field.

Even if he is old, he's still easy on the eyes.

17. He's from the town where I live
and spoke at the university of Oklahoma commencement the year after I graduated.

He's always been a heartfelt liberal; I like hearing him talk politics because you can hear passion and compassion in his voice. He gives a damn. Definitely one of the good ones.
