National Novel Writing Month
A couple of friends pointed me in the direction of this site today, and I was curious if there are any other DUers who are, or are thinking about, participating.

If you don't know what National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo for short) is, it is actually fairly self-explanatory. You have to write a novel of 50,000 words, between November 1 and November 30. The novel can be about anything or anyone, and does not need to be edited at all, all that is counted is the words.

http://www.nanowrimo.org if you are curious to see some more information. Maybe a couple of other people will give some thought to it.

If not, no big deal

4. I've never written a novel before
I've done some leisurely writing, nothing on this scale. I think it might be fun to try, just to see if I can do it. I'm sure I have 50,000 words of ideas in my head, I just need to actually get them out on a keyboard.

Still just thinking about it, but that's more than I was doing a day ago.

Has a few reservations

6. Not sure you have 50,000 words worth of ideas?
No problem! Just use the same ones over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over! After all, Booshikins only has one idea (tax cut tax cut tax cut tax cut tax cut) and he just kept repeating it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and it got him selected pResident so he could drive the economy down, down, down, down, down, down into the straming pits of a really really really really really bottomless hell one dark and stormy night! (Let's see, that's one, two, three, four, five, six...)

2. Unfortunately, it takes me about a year to write a novel.
Either I write slow, or I spend too much time on DU. You decide.

Nice to see you, CollegeDude. When are you going to be GraduateDude?

3. Probably about three years...
I changed my major, so it's going to take me longer than four years. I'm in my third year now, but I think it will take this year and two more. I don't really mind, though, now I'm majoring in political science and I really think I can make a difference in the world, somehow.

Even so, I doubt I'll change my handle even once I graduate. I'll be far too attached to it by then. :)

As well I should be

7. 30 days?
I took nine months on my last book, and it was only 40K!

...But it's heartening to thing it could be done. I'll have to write faster! :)

8. I'll give it a try; I've had an idea kicking around for a while.
I've been thinking of writing a fictionalized based on a real New Wave band with a very compelling history.

9. That could be cool
It would encourage me to start writing something substantial again. There is a story that I've been thinking about that I'd like to attempt. I've written two stories of around 200 pages when I was younger. I also have an unfinished story of over 400 pages. I am looking forward to this. It will provide some motivation. how many type written pages is 50,000 words?

10. They say 175
I've always gone by the rule of thumb that puts 250 words to a page, so that would be about 200 pages. The words are all they count to make a 'winner' though.

Seems like it has the potential to be very frustrating, but very rewarding if you make it to the end.

-CollegeDude
And if you write 2000 words a day you can do it easy
