Why can't the Vikings ever play in the Super Bowl???
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 06:31 PM by SmileyBoy
Last time we were in the SB (28 years ago), I wasn't even a spit in my daddy's pants. Seems like us Vikes fans are split between two groups: Fans younger than 35 and fans older than 35. Those of us younger than 35 just want to see the team get in the SB while we're alive. The old fogeys, meanwhile, want to see the Vikes win it ALL (not just PLAY in it again), because they're the ones afraid that we'll go 0-5 all-time.

Frankly, I don't give a shit if we lose in the Super Bowl (if we ever get into it again). I just want to see us there.

(Lucky sonofabitchin' Eagles...)

4. I pray that I won't be an old, decrepit man the next time we make it.
I hope at least I'll still be mobile.

9. 16 division championships and one NFL championship.

And we never had a 25-year period of consistent sucking.

That'll do pretty nicely.

Just cause I'm a Vikings fan doesn't mean I like that piece of shit excuse for a stadium. You'd be surprised at the number of moron Viking fans who will say they like the Metrodump.

I hate Moss, too.

24. I still think of the Dome as the "new" stadium.
I always startles me to realize it's been in use since 1981.

Yes. Let's get an outdoor stadium and then we'll see the emergence of the new generation of Purple People Eaters! I'd love it.

17. I thought you had an outdoor stadium not too long ago.
Didn't the city tear it down and build a "Warm" dome downtown?
Not Criticizing ..just wondering.. :)

A real sucky dome.

21. twenty-four years ago.
The 'dome opened up in 1980. It was as low budget as they could make it. It didn't even have air-conditioning at the start. It was so muggy inside that there were streams draining down the aisles, (This was baseball season) I think the baseball players and fans were losing there minds in that sauna. Not an auspicious begining.

We really need a new Stadium, I'd prefer outdoor but I'll take whatever if they'd triple the number of restrooms. Trying to pee at a VIkes game is like a thirty-five minute process. It sucks.

22. Actually, 1982. 23 years ago.
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 07:31 PM by SmileyBoy
It was the only stadium in the history of the human race that was built under budget. When it opened in April 1982, a bunch of toilets in the upper concourse overflowed and flooded the suites below. Also the following winter, the roof collapsed from the weight of the snow from a blizzard. Ironically, it's probably in somewhat better shape right now than it was 23 years ago.

It's still a real piece of shit, though.

23. I stand corrected,
I was just going from memory, but I remember the news stories--they were bad from the start.

At least it gets REALLY loud in there--and that's almost neater at a baseball game than at football.

But, yeah, the Dome blows.

25. I seem to recall seeing a few indoor soccer games at the Dome
in '81. It could have been '82, though. I do know that the Met was never used after '81.

5. Count me among who'd be happy to simply see them advance...
Really! Ever since Gary Anderson "Ray Finkle'd (laces out)" against the Falcons, it just kills me that we can't get that close again.

10. Trust me
If they ever get to the Super Bowl you will want them to win. I'm speaking as a Bengals fan who watched them lose two Super Bowls.

14. As an over-35er, I can say I would hate to seem them lose
a Super Bowl. The jokes continued long after their last loss ("Why can't the Vikings eat soup?" "If you give them a bowl, they choke!"), and going 0-5 in the Super Bowl would just be too heartbreaking.

A Red Sox-like win in the Super Bowl would be sweeeeet.

18. I remember the last SuperBowl
they were in, I was six or seven years old. They had so thouroughly crushed all opposition on their way to the SB I was unaware that losing was even a possibility. The destruction of the LA Rams in the NFC championship game was a sight to behold.

And then they met the Raiders. Wow, that was an ass-kicking of monumental proportions, even to my young eyes it wass blatantly apparent that they flat-out did not GIVE A SINGLE SHIT about winning that game. It was like Tarkenton was aiming for Silver, uff. I forget the exact final score, but the Vikings had some garbage time pride points thrown in--it wasn't as close as (I think it was) 35-14 would suggest. I don't care to see THAT again.

I still hate the goddamned Raiders--if they never won another football game I'd still think they had some payback coming their way.
