I admit I was wrong about "Monk".
I was totally convinced "Monk" would suck horribly and mightily with the departure of Bitty Schram. I nearly decided to quit watching. But my brother persuaded me to watch this weekend's season debut.

Boy, was I wrong.

Naturally I miss Bitty. The Sharona character was one of the best things about "Monk", but I think they've made an intelligent and plausible transition to the new character. I've never been all that impressed with Traylor Howard (?) in shows like "Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place", but I think she and Tony Shalhoub work well together. And she's got a tough act to follow.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased. As long as it stays as good as this debut, I don't have to ditch one of my favorite shows.

1. I agree completely
I was anxious to see whether I liked Traylor Howard as much as I did Bitty Schram. I don't know that that's the case, but I do like her and thought it was a clever episode.

3. Actress left because she wanted more money
I also read that her personality was wearing a bit thin.

"Sharona" remarried her ex, sold her house and moved back to NJ.

5. Bitty held out for more money.
The producers said no, and she walked. Stottlemeyer and Randy, the captain and his assistant, also asked for more money but came back anyway when refused.

Sharona returned to New Jersey and remarried her ex-husband. That bummed me out, as he was a creep.

4. I tried twice to watch that show...
...but I found the title character so annoying, I wanted to punch him in the mouth. But that's how I react to real-life obsessive/compulsives, too, so I guess I should've known better than to watch "Monk" at all. :eyes:

So I can't say I blame you. But, I get annoyed by Tony Shaloub anyway.

I watch it once in a while; I do get a kick out of some of the things he does. (I can relate.)

8. I knew she looked familiar but could not place her. Thanks for doing that
for me. I also miss "Sharona".
I was wondering why the writers insist on Monk's assistant having a child. Oh, well!
Bitty Shram was the "There's no crying in baseball!" girl from "A League of Their Own". She did seem to be a pretty integral part of the show and Traylor will have a tough row to hoe here, but what the hell...I'll give her a chance.

13. I don't think I'll miss Bitty. There was something forced about her
when she had to laugh on camera. Some of her bits were good, and she brought in a lot of opportunities for the writers to have some fun, but I never really warmed up to her.

Haven't seen the new character yet. I'm still on Season 1. Netflix, ya know.
