Best album (cd/ tape/ whatever) ever?
I gotta let my bourgeois flag fly; I think it's Rumours. Not a bad song on it, except for Don't Stop, and that has a certain '92, '96 sentimental value, and the album also has maybe the finest pop-rock song ever, Go Your Own Way. So I'm a pushover for conflict/resolution played out on percussion instruments in four minutes; sue me.

I have a shrewd notion that I'm not going to be overwhelmed with seconding motions on this one. What's yours?

5. Yours isn't a bad choice
I would pick Frank Zappa's Crusin with Ruben and the Jets. I like the doo-wop sound and this album is both a tribute to and a satire of it.

BTW, is your handle a Superchunk reference? Superchunk had a great song by that name in 1997.

9. Thank you kindly!
And yes, it's all about the 'Chunk. Actually, I chose this particular handle because it combines my love of Superchunk with my love of David Cross (who appeared in the video).

Good, you can join my street team to convert the masses to the genius that is the Wrens.

I do prefer Meadowlands though. But Seacaucus is still brilliant.

23. "Meadowlands" is too morose for continual listening, IMO.
I love it, but it's so emotional I can only take it in small doses.

"Secaucus" is a world-defining masterwork.

Look out for GOPisEvil; he's a huge Wrens fan, too. (There's a tiny but significant Wrenhead contingent on DU)

36. the Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society
My favorite cd/lp/tape/whatever for only about, oh, fifteen years or so.

The Kinks may have had higher points in terms of individual songs (Waterloo Sunset, Sangri-la), but as a perfectly cohesive 15-song unit, I simply never tire of it.

Anyway as I think back, Rumours wasn't a bad album, but they were too corporate-rock for me at the time, when I was wavin' my punk flag high.

43. Thanks for the second. I liked 52nd St, too
until a study tour of France in 1979, where it was one of only about 3 tapes we had on the bus for a month or so. Boston's debut album was one of the other ones; merciful premature senility draws a curtain over the other one(s).

Perhaps not the best album ever, but it is perennially in my list of top ten favorite albums. In fact, I was listening to it today. "Don't Stop" actually cheers me up quite a bit when I get to feeling down about the current political climate in this country.

It's definitely one of those albums I can listen to all the way through.
