I love bargains.
Here's a secret (maybe it's not such a secret). I love to dress up and look really, really girly and cute sometimes. However, I'm cheap and I hate spending money of frivolous things. A few months back, I saw a dress that I loved (print, wrap-around, just really cute), but it was too much money, so I did nothing about it. I saw it today for 70% off, these awesome red leather retro pumps also for 70% off, and I found a bra for $3 (in my size, almost impossible). Grand total- $33. When I actually have something fun to do again, at least my wardrobe is looking well. :silly:

6. At a garage sale last summer. A woman had three of them. PassingFair
(another DUer) is actually the savvy one...to find the garage sale. We adore bargain hunts. It had the Jacobsen's tag on it and everything. My sister in law was green with envy because she hoards the bags. It's probably the most expensive--besides wedding ring and a couple other pieces of jewelry that I own. :) Once in a lifetime happening.

9. I think that's how I'm going to furnish my new place.
I'll have the money to do more, but I love refinishing things (and I'm cheap), so I think when I move in March, I'm bringing a few things and then once on the sales start in April, I'm hitting 'em. The thing is I hate getting up early on the Saturday mornings they have them, but I'll be working most Fridays and Saturdays on 3rd shift, so I'll just hit 2 or 3 after work on Saturday mornings before I go to sleep. :D

11. You can get some excellent stuff. I like to go to the higher end
neighborhoods where people have no idea what they are getting rid of. I also love, love, LOVE freecycle. It's a great place to get, give and make friends. :hi:

3. So where's the pic?
You should post a pic of you all dolled up in your $33 outfit just to prove up your claim.

Okay...I believe what you said, I'm just trolling for pix of...oh, forget it.

I work a 12 (7pm-7am) tomorrow night. Unless you're up for a late Saturday (like after 5 or 6)?

10. oy - retail
My mom used to drag me into the hell of Fileens sub-sub-sub basement in Boston when i was a kid.It was near the subways and steam was coming from hell a few feet below.Women were fighting over slightly irregular clothes (one arm or torn to shreads) damn I miss it. Now all the bargan stores are no bargan......My daughter makes cool clothes or goes to thrift stores,it has become an addiction now.
So here I am a grown man that wears a used letter sweater and
the worst plaid pants ever made, the neocons hate it.....

12. I went there once.
Yeah, Filene's Basement in Boston was nuts. They used to have a store near me (I'm in CT), but it closed. :(

15. oh, do I miss Filene's and I have not lived in Boston since 1971
Filene's Basement was the bomb!

But I do pretty well anyway. I got a $129 8 quart Analon stock pot with triple Teflon for $24 a couple of weeks ago!!!!! It was on the garage sale table in Foley's

I love going to Foley's when you have an extra 15% coupon and everything is already marked down. I have gotten some great buys over the years, like the beaded chiffon scarf I paid $4 for and it went at the Christmas auction fundraiser for $25 ....

I am the kind of shopper who only looks at the on sale racks anyway.

but I still miss Filene's. What can you say about a store with its own subway exit, essentially.
