Do you find yourself often pissed of when people are insenstive?

We were watching the movie Cry Freedom today which is about Aparteid and stars Kevin Kline and Denzel Washington. Great movie, I first saw it as a Sophomore and it taught me a lot about Aparteid and it really saddened me because of a lot of things. So we're watching the movie today, and the end credits show a list of suspicious deaths of Blacks who opposed the Afrikanner regime, and the last one they name is only 4 months before my birth. Then we discussed the movie as we're bound to do and when my teacher tried to explain to us just how lucky we are, which we are in my part of the country, there were a couple people being asses about it. I know it's something I can't control but damnit when you see innocent kids being shot down on screen, you should be aware of the madness that was Aparteid.

Its a beautiful film, it taught me a lot about aparteid which I as a sophomore did not know much about. Really says a lot about my sophomore history teacher, a former football player and a football coach at the time, it really moved me a lot, it was just so damn sad seeing all those poor kids get shot by those damn bastards.

and yes, I remember seeing films in HS and having some people be jerks.

It's annoying.

I'm one of the older law student critters at my school, and I hate it when my younger comrades make stupid, insensitive remarks, usually about the poor. "He jests at scars that never felt a wound."

It sickens me even though I am well off, I do know through my research on Appalachia that there are some parts of this country that live an almost third world life, it's sad as anything.

Truth be told I also get angry with myself when I use the wrong words at the wrong time. "Mistakes of attention," is how one writer put it.

Reagan supported the Apartheid government and a lot of senators shouted him down on it -- including, to my shock -- Republican Richard Lugar.

I know Cheney did because I know of Edwards citing his vote against freeing Mandela from prison. What happened in South Africa to me reminds me of the struggles blacks faced in this country, what Catholics faced in Northern Ireland, etc.

many recording artists got together to protest "Sun City", i.e., there were other recording stars who would perform at the Sun City Resort, which was aparteid.

I think it was called "I'm not gonna play Sun City."

You know I think I read that movie came out originally in late November 1987, I was born in July of that year so I am sure there were dissidents killed around that time. I just don't know how people can be so damned insensitive honestly.

The Sun City resort complex, located in Bophuthatswana, attracted international performers. But, despite being in an area designated for Africans, few blacks could afford to visit. Because of it prominence, Sun City became a focus of the cultural boycott of South Africa. The cultural boycott urged artists not to go perform in South Africa. In 1985 Little Steven Van Zandt co-founded Artists United Against Apartheid (AUAA). That same year AAUA released an album SUN CITY produced by Little Steven and Arthur Baker featuring some 50 artists. The lyrics include the phase "I ain't gonna play Sun City." There was also an award winning video. Monies raised from this album went through The Africa Fund to education for South African exiles, political prisoners inside South Africa and anti-apartheid education in the U.S. Among those receiving money as a result were the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College run by the ANC in Tanzania which received $220,000; the South African Council of Churches which received $160,000 to aid political prisoners and their families; and TransAfrica and the American Committee on Africa which split $238,000 for anti-apartheid educational work in the United States. South Africa in the 60's. I was always a democrat but films like this solidfied my beliefs.

When the Reds traded Frank Robinson to Baltimore for Milt Pappas, I could hardly believe it. The Orioles have been my favorite American League team since then.

I don't live near Baltimore though, and I am gonna be busy in April, I am gonna try to go to a summer game this summer though.
