Do you remember where you were when...

The "this day in history" got this started...

What was the FIRST major historic event that you remember where you were?

For me, it was when Reagan was shot - I came home from elementary school to see it on the news...

It was all over the news every night...I kept waiting for them to show a picture of this "water" gate cos I thought that sounded like it'd look cool. :D

3. maybe not major, but the very first news story I remember is the death

of Harry Truman. I was in the bedroom my sisters and I shared at our grandmother's house on Daisy in Long Beach, CA, looking at the story on a little B&W television. Somehow that event is associated in my memory with the dime, and for a very long time I thought it was Truman whose profile is on the ten cent piece.

This kid that was a well-known liar, and he told us two impossible things: that the President had been shot, and that our supermacho gym teacher was crying. Both were true.

6th grade.

Then the whole country shut down for days, right through the funeral.

I saw Lee Harvey Oswald get shot by Jack Ruby on live television, a couple of days later.
