still need a couple of 1099's and receipts on some charitable contributions. I always do them as soon as possible and if I get a refund, send it off immediately, otherwise wait until April 10 or so. I hate giving bushco an interest free loan so I usually underwithhold and end up owing a few hundred.

Ours are pretty straight forward this year and I've got all my stuff. Last year I wanted to get an early start, but did it before I had all my info. So I got to do it twice. What fun!!

Spent almost every dime of it paying off various assorted bills, etc. Money in, money out. Sigh.

We've got ours earmarked already for when we receive it and I can tell you that not one thing that money is going to is going to be even remotely fun.... :nopity:

I don't blame you one bit.

I get to work very long hours to make the partners rich and I get to deal with clueless clients that just don't understand they we can't get them out of every penny they may owe. Some of these guys make many hundreds of thousands of dollars and get upset because they owe $10,000 or less. I hate them. I pay my damn taxes, they need to pay theirs.

I have admired folks in your field ever since I took Accounting 101 eons ago. Well, I say "took" but I only lasted about 5 minutes once the professor said that we're going to add debits and subtract credits.

But...but.... I'd had a checkbook for years and I knew that you subtracted debits and added credits. I could prove this because the was a minus (-) sign in the debits column and a plus (+) sign in the credits column of the register.

Worlds collided as I could not wrap my brain around that concept until later when talking to a buddy (an Accounting major) about it and he explained that a checkbook is a liability and on that side of the accounting equation, that you reversed the action on debits / credits.

It still doesn't make sense to me, but it did when he explained it.

I used to work in a bank so it was the other way around. I didn't understand the accounting method when I took into to accounting. It made sense after I got a job in an accounts payable department that led to an assistant to the controller spot. That is when I finally started making good grades in my accounting classes.

I did go back and complete the class (barely), but it just never registered with me. It was especially frustrating because I had always been good a math so I went assuming that it would be a snap.

What you said makes sense, though. It seems like the type of thing that might become natural with practice and experience.

There is no substitute for real-world experience. I've never had a class that even came close.
