4. Tough choice.
I went with Zep, but they had a big advantage of coming many years after guys like the Stones had paved the way. The Stones were limited in starting by playing music that was familiar to their audience--so they stuck to R & B. The Yardbirds tried to expand on that but it didn't get them as far as it should have. Jimmy Page learned from that experience.

Zeppelin had the benefit of coming later and pushing the envelope. Even so, Jimmy Page is just too spectacular. So, he throws it to LZ.

7. Even though I believe Bonham/Jones have yet to be beat as the finest
rhythm pair in all rock, I voted for the Stones-too many GREAT SONGS over the DECADES!

I love Zep but the stones are just professional rock n rollers that always know how to entertain best. They didn't indulge in freakiness like a couple of the Led Zep albums. They really know how to put on a great concert, even now.

10. Hmmm, I have to choose between 2 of my top 3.
I don't really think I can participate in this. They are both too great. Led Zep is the best Hard Rock band ever and the Stones are the best Rock n Roll band ever. Coin flip.

13. I heard a Rolling Stones show from a hill ful of motorcycles at the VA
near old Milwaukee County Stadium. Rufus with Chaka Khan opened then it was The Eagles- including their latest member, Joe Walsh--they had the best set of the show just playing "Rocky Mountain Way" with great energy imo.
Not really, it was 1975.
There were 15 joints in my pocket when I went there...lol

The Stones have much greater range, sophistication, and stature than Led Zepplin.

Led Zepplin has some great guitar licks. But even their best songs are absolutely preposterous. The lyrics to "Stairway to Heaven," often considered their best song, are so juvenile and ludicrous that's it's almost impossible to parody.

21. Voodoo Lounge was a good album
and they're still great in concert. At least younger people like me got the chance to see the Stones.

They had true variety-- they could (and did) play everything.

I can't listen to more than 1/2 an album by Zep without getting a fricking headache. Plant's yelping and Page's wanky-doodle-doo 12-bar-blooze guitar playing may impress some teenagers, but after the first couple hundred times it grates like fingers on a chalkboard.

Funny, though, I quite like solo Plant. Just keep him from yelping-- and keep him the fuck away from guitarists who like to play excruciatingly long wank-off solos.

Richards is a sloppy guitarist, but then again so is Page. Hell, give any skinny white English guy enough speed and he can play Page riffs. For example, look at all-time king of the tossers Alvin Lee from Ten Years After! He's PROOF that it doesn't take much to do the stuff Pagey does! A little meth and you could do it too!

I'm not huge on either of these guys (more of a Stooges fan myself), but I gotta say the Stones have better tunes.
