What is the difference between an HDTV and an HD *ready* TV?

What is the difference between a Plasma screen and an LCD?

3. I am no expert, but sleeping hubby is....
HDTV vs HD ready..... I believe are the same. We had an HDTV that worked fine w/o HD signal for a year until we got Dish, and now have HD channels (I'll be honest, on a big TV, I see little difference).

My husband wants to buy an HDTV soon and I was curious as to what the difference between plasma and LCD was...We will likely go LCD.
