Who wants to see a photograph of something that NEVER existed?
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 09:42 AM by underpants
Intriguing huh?

This is an undated photo of a Prebles meadow jumping mouse captured in the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site buffer zone. The Preble's meadow jumping mouse, once seen as a costly impediment to development, is now viewed by the government as a critter that never really existed - and no longer in need of federal protection under the Endangered Species Act. The Interior Department said that new DNA research shows the nine-inch mouse that can launch itself a foot and a half into the air and switch direction in mid-flight is probably identical to another variety of mouse common enough not to need protection. Nearly 31,000 acres have been designated critical mouse habitat for the Preble's mouse along streams in Colorado and Wyoming, including large parts of Colorado's Front Range, where sprawl is booming amid the foothills and the prairie. The mouse also has blocked construction of reservoirs despite a continued drought there.

2. Probably identical?
If they were using the DNA for comparison, wouldn't the results be pretty clear?

5. We can thank the Shrub administration for this bit of "science"
I am sure we'll see a lot of other species that are miraculously identical to common species in order that we can go develop their habitat.

"The Spotted Owl? That's the same thing as this other owl over here, that we have trillions of."

14. Yep, there's so much pristine land, just sitting there doing nothing
When it could be used for something sensible, like strip malls and subdivisions.

But those damn wacky liberals trying to tell us we need trees and wildlife and shit. Well, what about money? That land could be making us money! Developing it is actually BETTER for Americans than leaving it in its natural, but undeveloped, state.

11. Seriously are we the only "civilization" that doesn't build up?
Ghandi was once asked "What do you think of Western civilization?"

Ghandi replied "I think it is a good idea"
