Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 12:13 AM by Girlfriday
...but I had to e-mail him when he started doing political stuff. He definitely leans right. I much prefer Art; you just have to make sure the tin foil hat is strapped on real tight!

13. Yeah
That's the one thing that kind of annoyed me about Noori; all those right leaning political shows. But if the topic is a good one; still fun to tune in.

I can't pick up his show, tho he's not the regular host anymore, from what I understand, but hosts on the weekends now.

I have heard his show, tho, and if I'm supposed just believe without blinking the bs that comes from the right (ie - wmds/evil arabs/etc, then why not give this stuff consideration? Why is the claim of underwater scuba-diving terrorists with dirty bombs are coming so get your duct tape to be taken seriously, while reports of cattle mutillation to be brushed aside?

At any rate, I visit the website from time to time, as well as Rense.com

edited for total information compliance

9. Art's Back Problems
Used to listen to Art via the 'Net for couple years until he started requiring a subscription. Figured I didn't want to pay to sit through 30 minutes of commercials every hour, but I did enjoy a lot of the crazy stuff he talked about... some of it pretty way out there, but some of it pretty intriguing.

If he's defending Rush, is he doing it because of the "pain" pills issue? If so, Art might be doing it because he had some pretty serious back problems, which I think is part of the reason he went off the air the second time. He was missing a lot of his shows. It wouldn't surprise me that Art had to use pain killers, too.

Hope he's feeling better. Would be nice to have him back on the air again... But I suppose I'll have to get my tin hat out of storage.

10. I'd never heard of him...
until I started my last job and he called one day. My boss used to do interviews on his show and I'd go in and answer phones when he did. I'm not really a fan, but did listen to his show a few times when I was working until midnight at my current job. I really liked a show on alternative energy, and the interview with Dean Koontz. He does get some really interesting people on. Many of his guests are quacks, but they're easy to spot.

12. I Used To Drink With Art -- No Shit!
I live in Vegas, a hop skip and a jump from Pahrump, the "World's Biggest Trailer Park" where Art does (did?) his show. When I was 19 (about ten years ago), one of my buddies (age 17) had these alcoholic Freeper parents.

They didn't join a militia -- they FOUNDED one. And they belived every crackpot conspiracy theory out there: the collapse of the Soviet Union was just a dirty commie trick, the moon landing was faked, the Jewish-run Masonic Order secretly ruled the world, etc., etc..

Anyway, to make a long story short, his parents used to invite (and often get) Mr. Art Bell to their house once a week, for "meetings" of their militia/conspiracy-fringe-nutcase group. There was always booze at these "meetings," and his parents let us drink it up with them. Alas, we moved onto heavier and harder drugs than alcohol, so the miltia meetings were quickly forgotten.

On another note, his mother -- while totally out of her fucking mind -- was perhaps the kindest, most generous person I have ever known. When I first met her, she was going on a diatribe about how newly elected President Clinton was an agent of the Jewish conspiracy. I looked her right in the face and said, "Ma'am, with all due respect, that's the most fucked-up, assinine thing I've ever ehard in my life, and I won't sit here and listen to this anti-semitic bullshit any longer." The next day, her son came over and said, "Dude, my mother's in love with you. She says that I need more friends like you, who say what they think, and that you're welcome at our house anytime."

She died about five years ago. I was with her son when she passed at the hospice; one of the last things she did before losing consciousness was argue with me.

So God bless her, and god bless Art Bell.

14. I used to listen to him some, but I stopped on Jan 1, 2000
I have a couple of friends who are real fans. They both believed pretty much everything old Art had to say and wanted me to listen to his show. I had a early start time at work, 0600 AM, and could catch the last little bit of his show when I was getting up.

I thought it was pretty funny the way he hyped the whole Y2K thing. To listen to Art tell it, anyone without their own generator and a basement full of survial gear was doomed. Then, on Jan 2, 2000, he just never mentioned it any more. Never mind! What a hoot. At that point I quit listening to him. I figured if he was so wrong about that, he's probably wrong about everything else too.

16. I like Art ...
... but I don't believe most of what's on his show.

It's like vanilla. Smell it, add a few drops to the cake batter, but don't drink it!

17. Listening as Art Bell accidentally Krazy-Glued lips together
I listened to it now and then whenhe would have some of the weirder stuff, like the woman who was having sex with lizardmen, etc.

Anyway, one night you as the show is going along when suddenly you hear this vocalized "kewethsyehaonbs" type noises, a scream, then a distant "Be right back." Then there was about 20 straight minutes of music. Then Art comes back on and weakly tells of how he was gluing a cart or something with Krazy Glue when the bottle basically came apart, dumping glue all over his hands. Art wasn't specific about how the glue got on his mouth, but then he explained in detail how he had to rip his lips apart and there was now a huge chunk of lip in his ashtray next to him and blood all over his studio...

I was laughing so hard I almost puked.

Just like Rush the Blowhard.
Rush panders to the "lib'rul" haters, Bell panders to the nutcases who were "kidnapped by flying saucers" and such.

What especially galled me was how Art had on Gary North, (no relation to Oliver North,) time after time, spewing his "Y2K doomsday" crap.
And not ONCE did he even mention how Gary North is a "Christian" fascist, racist and anti-Semitic who belongs to the "Christian Reconstructionist" movement. (In fact North is married to RJ Rushdoony's daughter.)

That means I've heard his welcome and intro, and then zzzzzzzz.

Wanted to hear sean david morton the other night but again crashed before I heard anything except noory talking about Roy's tiger mauling.

I think SDM predicted a blackout in Poland as part of the ongoing terrorism that's been hitting countries that supported the US in iraq.

Wait---here's someone's summary of that show:
