Guys at the homecoming dance I had an awesome time
If you wanted to know :)
First of all we win our game making us 5-0 and our running back had 7 touchdowns in the game I was told. Now to the dance. I dressed pretty formally which is pretty unsusual for me especially if you know me well. So I get to the dance at about 8:00. It starts out slow for me being that I dont run in to any friends of mine. So at about maybe 8:40-9 I ran in two great friends who Ive been pals with since elementary school. We talk and the like. So at about 9:30 my friend Dave who like I really didnt have a date decided to go look for someone to dance with, I decided what the heck I am gonna do the same. So I start lol doing what looks like dancing. The girls seemed to like it :) and I was for a longtime basically dancing parell to them. I just needed confidence in myself and a few friends to be with then girls are easy :) for me to be around. I had a great time. Talked to a good amount of people. My feet are sore as hell but I had a great time.

Thats awesome. What do you know? I am a social misfit lol. It was great man, you would had a great time. It is a small world after all. I am a junior, one of the few without a car, and without a cell phone. Actually I am quite shy myself, I kind of pressured myself to go. What a small fucking world lol. This is too weird lol.

6. I went to prom and hated it
So I figured homecoming wouldn't be much better. None of my friends went either, so I would've been bored to tears.

11. You know what social misfits become?
Successful! Seriously - in 20 years all the most popular kids will be living in the past, their glory days, and you will be driving a Lexus...Mercedes....Jaguar. You get my drift.

I'd prefer a hybrid car. It might look stupid, but atleast it's uniquely stupid.

24. Yeah, right
I was a misfit in school, and now that I'm 45, I'm still a misfit. I have a beat-up 1986 VW, have been marginally employed for the past two years (thanks, George), and women still use me for sadism practice.

Just when does this success thing kick in?

14. Hi, BBradley
Welcome to du and glad you stopped by the lounge. I suspect you're not a social misfit at all, but maybe just a little shy. In any case, you came to the right place, there are lots of social misfits around here, but we revel in our differences and have come to consider ourselves not so much as misfits, but rather that we're just special. lol WELCOME!

5. Words of advice from a 35 year old man (namely me)
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 12:08 AM by RatTerrier
You are in high school. And chances are, years from now, you won't be around anyone from your school. And you will also get older and not take as many chances.

When I was in high school, I was a total weenie. Took few chances. I regret this, but I made some good decisions since and things are going good for me.

And I think, if I could go back to HS with all I know now, I'd rule the place! Seriously.

Moral to story: Take all the chances you can. This is the only way to build confidence. Trial and error. You can do no harm. And it's more fun to at least try than to wonder 'what if'.

Do it. What's to lose?

40 years from now and smile. We all need pleasant memories of our youth and it sounds like you just had a good one. "Dance like nobody's watching, sing like nobody's listening and laugh like there's no tomorrow". I don't know who wrote those words, but your post just made me think of them.

My friend Daniel never went to dances until senior year when he realised that no one else knew how to dance either, so he came and had lots of fun.
Glad you had fun!!
Ps. Dances are a great excuses to sleep in the next day ;)

You see, girls aren't so hard to talk to! You talk to those of us with great wit and wisdom every day on DU! It's not so very different, is it? Just pretend that you're talking to your good friend, Rhiannon, who likes you a lot and thinks you are one cool upperclassman!:D

19. The people you talked with tonight can't be that different from your
usual classmates. I don't know how big your school is, but there are sure to be kindred spirits, if you look in the right places. Most kids in high school are shy or worried about making fools of themselves. That's all part of being a teenager. What you need to do is find both guys and girls who you have things in common with, like politics, chess, math, dramatics, public speaking, languages, skiing, fencing, martial arts, tutoring kids, anything you're interested in. I did several of these, plus I was the only girl on the rifle team. I can't imagine they're encouraging that these days! Anyway, you are such a great guy that all you have to do is to get out there and let them discover you! And DU will be sorry because we will likely never see you again!:-(

You really deserve to! High school is hardly the apex of your life, but it certainly should be a good experience. As for DU, we couldn't exist without you! I know what you mean. I find it hard to go too long without checking in with DU!:hi:

40. Dead serious
It suck that in high school you'd get beat for dressing formal allthe time. But I dress in a Sportcoat and nice pants and a collared shirt whenever I go out. Not that I'm a casanova, but I do get more looks and what not when dressed in such a way.

I really am. I am not much of a social person so I wanted to just hang out and the like. If I had a choice between just hanging out at like someone's house or a school run dance I would choose the former. Sorry you didnt have a good time, I feel better about myself though but I still am a loser :).

That "what the heck" attitude will take you a long way! Good for you for getting out there and having a great time. Life is a participatory sport, and it's so much more fun when you get off the bench and play, if you'll pardon the sports metaphor.

Proud of ya, big guy! :hi:

And then by the end of the night everyone in a skirt is barefoot.

which leads me to ask: WHY THE HELL DO YOU WEAR THEM if you only have them on for about five minutes at the start. Honestly, the girls just took em off when they got there! Geez, why not just where bathroom slippers?
