Honoring my mother's memory, please keep kicked
Honoring Marta Harrington’s memory

She loved to read and was a frequent visitor to the Blue Hill library, where she combed through the sci-fi/fantasy, mystery, chick lit and general fiction stacks. She often called me to rave over books she had discovered, especially when they seemed like a perfect fit for my book review website.

One of the proudest moments of my life happened earlier this year when I handed her a copy of a book that I had contributed to as both a writer and editor. I am so sad that she will not be here to see my future offerings to the fiction world, but I have decided that one way I can honor her memory is by donating some books in her name to the library where she spent so much time. I would be very pleased if you would consider doing the same. If you opt to use a bookplate, she was fond of Celtic designs and dragons, which frequently appeared in her artwork.

Thank you so much!

Sincerely,

~Jen

I swear I'm not really a Floridian. I've lived in ME 23 years and in FL for the last 3 years (I will be 26 in April).

What kind of books are you looking for? Will this library accept any book that sent to them?

3. People who love libraries
have a special place in my heart. When my favorite Uncle died someone told the story about his request for some books to read while he was in the hospital. He told his sister to go to the library. She asked what kind of books he'd like. He replied, "Ask _____, the librarian, she'll be able to pick them out for me."

28. Yes, and I only wish I'd really thought so before. You know how it is..
I am finding the things about her that used to cause me major embarassment as a kid are actually what endeared her to many others. (Like the goofy hats she wore in public that made the teen I once was slink around as though I didn't even know her.) *sad laugh*

sorry for your loss, Jen ...

it sounds like you mom instilled in you an appreciation for books ... both reading and writing them ... what more valuable gift could there be ...

you have indeed honored her memory by taking that gift forward in your work ... i'm sure her spirit and energies will live on in the pages you produce ...

And one after my own heart. I also love mysteries, and have probably read hundreds, I was born in the year of the Dragon, and am fond of most Celtic things, since I am Irish-American. This is a very sincere kick for Marta.:-)

Have you ever read any books by Maeve Binchy? She is an Irish writer and they sound like they meet your mother's criteria. She's really very good.

Kudos to you, and Godspeed to your Mom.O8)

And from what I understand from Raymonde, she's pretty much an invalid. In fact, I think she's in a wheelchair. I'll have to ask for the details. Anyway, this would mean that she doesn't get out much.

Some people do leave a much bigger hole than others when they leave us. For me, it was my dad. So I sympathize and understand.
