HITCHHIKER`S GUIDE Finally Given Green Light!
After almost two decades of being trapped in development hell, Walt Disney Pictures has finally given a greenlight for the feature film adaptation of THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. Filming is scheduled to commence next year in England, with city scenes to be shot in London.

What appears to have finally worked in favor of the GUIDE movie was the introduction of music video director Garth Jennings and his producing partner Nick Goldsmith. Karey Kirkpatrick (CHICKEN RUN) wrote the latest draft of the GUIDE movie based on Douglas Adams classic sci-fi comedy novel.

2. Just a low budget BBC TV series
in the early 80s (with most, but not all, of the original radio cast). Anything with a bit of a computer graphics budget should look miles better.

3. The BBC did a television miniseries version.
It was much like their version of the 'Red Dwarf' novel(s) -- good actors, but not much of a budget. The mini-series was released as a movie, but it was just all the BBC episodes strung together.

5. Red Dwarf
actually went in the opposite direction to Hithhikers. It started as a TV series from which creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor (as Grant Naylor) spun off two (maybe three) novels.
Both Dwarf and Hitchhikers have extra charm because of their low budgets. Beyond a certain point, more money to lavish on effects etc. would probably have acted against the ideas, characters and jokes in both series.

6. sweet! Looking forward to this...
though I suppose it's the kind of material that they could either: elevate to new heights of hilarity, or ruin completely

we'll see!

10. Oh good, DISNEY of all folks... Let alone an American company
Let me guess, in this new version, Trillian was battered and abandoned by her hubby, yes?

American companies have tried their hand at Doctor Who, Coupling, and Red Dwarf. They all failed MISERABLY at the attempts.

Leave it to the British, so what if they can't afford to put $50,000,000,000 into an episode? I'm a TV addict and yet I put writing and acting above special effects!
