Yup, I went to to Dallas and saw the bands at the Grambling vs. Prairie View A&M game in the Cotton Bowl. It rocked.
My best friend took me for my birthday - we're such band geeks. :-)

2. Grambling's band was good...
but I actually thought Prairie View's was *gasp* better. Both were just amazing.

Well, while I was in Big D I went out for cajun food, had homemade pecan pie, and went to the State Fair. I hadn't been to the Fair since I was a kid and it was fun. Had corny dogs, which taste better at the Fair. Rode the big ferris wheel and the Wild Mouse roller coaster and some other rides that spin you around and turn you upside down. It was a lot of fun. We saw the new cars and went to the livestock barns and looked at cows and horses and goats and whathaveyou. We saw the winners in the food and crafts competitions. There were some gorgeous quilts and a wall of winning jams and jellies that would just leave you drooling.

I got to ride on the DART train. That was ok. Nicer than I expected. And it was worth it for the experience I had while waiting between the train and the Fair Shuttle bus. There were lots of monarch buttlerflies. They must be migrating right now and they were all over the bus stop. :-)

3. sounds like a good time indeed....
.....and those butterflies must have been an awesome sight....I agree fair corndogs are the BEST!! And pecan pie if made right is also a favorite...get a box of locally grown pecans every year for Thanksgiving and always bake at least one from 'em!:9

Glad you had a good weekend! :hi:

4. He had been threatening...
to make a homemade pecan pie for me for years. I thought he was al talked. When I walked into his house I immediately got hit with this amazing smell. :-)

I turned 33 last week and homemade pecan pie and a trip to the Fair and the football game was a pretty darn good present in my book. And the universe sending me the butterflies was just too wonderful for words. :-)

Mmm...fresh pecans. *drool*

5. I was about to wish you a belated happy birthday....
.....but I remember it was the 29th and I DID reply to your birthday thread...you truly did have a belated celebration indeed! :)

Yeah...I once worked at a hospital and the cafeteria had the most awesome pecan pie slices...it had a caramel texture to it....extremely rich...I joked with the kitchen staff of how wonderful it was...and how in the hell did they make such good pie...when everything else was so awful...and found out they bought 'em frozen!! Never did find out where the came from..sorta glad tho..as it was ADDICTIVE!!! None has ever tasted as good as theirs did! :D

6. Yup...my birthday stretched out
for over a week. It rocked. I was sick on my actual birthday and my friends took it upon themselves to make up for that. :-)

My friend's pecan pie had copious amounts of bourbon in it. :-) *hiccup*

8. Thanks.
I did. :-)

A couple of weeks ago my parents came down and my mom brought homemade chocolate cake. My girl best friend took me out for lunch (had phillies) and shopping and then for ice cream last Saturday. Then I went out with some local DUers for lunch last Sunday and had Death By Chocolate. Several of my fellow DUers wished me a happy birthday while I was home sick - even had a couple of them sing to me (although one sang Led Zeppelin badly instead of "Happy Birthday"). Then had the adventure this weekend with my guy best friend. All in all it was a pretty good "birthday"...stretched on for weeks.
