What's the best Vodka?
I'm looking to branch out from my Grey Goose pattern.

I find potato vodkas a little more interesting, in terms of having more flavor (if often more harsh to the palate).

What's your favorite? And why?

too. But check out Belvedere. VERY VERY smooth and fine-tasting.

4. Fleishmans--
only because I resist the PR advertisements and the fancy pictures on the bottles. Grey Goose is very smooth indeed, as is Stoli, but is way too expensive for my meager budget. Really, Fleishmans is not that bad at all.

that's our current fave, replacing Ketel One.

Maybe we should start a gin thread? We're running low and don't like the ubiquitous Saphire.

Very good stuff. At least the equal of Sapphire, maybe superior (I'm partial to Sapphire, myself). YMMV.

what we don't like about Sapphire is that to our taste it isn't dry enough. Recently we bought a bottle of Junipero, but found it too ginny. We drink our gin in gin and tonics. I'll look for Citadelle.

was frozen buffalo grass vodka I had in Spain. It was made in Poland. That's all I remember.

Surprised that no one here mentioned it already. It's the choice vodka according to most connoisseurs and bartenders. Not a liquor person myself and even I can tell the difference.

20. The best vodka...
is either Russian or Polish Starka (old) vodka. Dark, not clear, aged 5-15 years in oak, like a good brandy or whisky. Russian versions have a touch of port and/or brandy added prior to aging, along with apple or pear...the Polish starka is a blend of raw rye spirits and a small amount of Malaga wine. Good luck finding either anywhere in the States, though...very hard to track down, and extremely rare.

25. Hangar One, then Gray Goose
Hangar One is VERY new Vodka made in California. I had it as a chic restaurant and it was fantastic: the Mandarin blend in particular is great.

If you have a bottle of this, you will be very cool.

Gray Goose, is of course, fantastic as well. Besides Hangar, I've never tried a vodka as good.
