My thoughts

1. Don't get me wrong, I hate Bush with a passion. I also view his supporters as inferior because of their worldview. But at the same time, we as Democrats should step back and take a look at what we have been doing:

a) All we ever do is blatently bash the Bush administration and relate him to extremes. If you take a look at the DU Articles section, many of the articles are bogus reports linking Bush to Nazis, war criminal, etc... shit that won't gain any merit except solidifying the base that visits DU; no new votes will be gained by that information. Although it is blatently obvious that these comparisons can be made, I feel that it hurts us in the grand scheme of things. Our base is simply not as large as the Republican base. Therefore we must begin appealing to the "moderately right" wingers... we have to stop all this crap about Bush being a nazi and his supporters being inferior... I too have to change the way I approach politics.

b) We must come up with valid solutions; not criticisms. Not only should we disagree with the Bush administration over certain issues, but we should be coming up with media-worthy bills that puts the onus on the Republicans to make a move, or initial response. Since 2000, us Dems have been the "initial responders" and it allows the media to portray us as bitches, whiners, and problem causers. The people that we need to join our party don't want whiners, they want "doers". They like Bush cause he "did" Afghanistan, "did" Iraq, and in my opinion, "did" the poor of America but is for another thread.


Basically we need to stop all this crap that we are still doing and start being more progressive.... Rudy and friends will be a hell-of-a tough ticket in 08 and I doubt Hilary can checkmate those assholes.

I'm no right winger nor do I push a right wing agenda.. and on DU? lol. All I'm saying is that we lost.. what will change in 2008 if we remain exactly the same? The Republicans didn't get "lucky".

Quick to judge. That tells a lot about a person.

My goal is to win; not to try and win. We're losers and have to learn from that, not cherish it.

I think that the left has to appeal to the moderates but without giving up our principals. For example, health care. A lot of moderates are concerned about health care and this is where the left could step in with a plan and start to pick off votes from the right. Bush's Social Security reform is another issue where principled progressives can pick up some votes from moderates.

Unfortunately too many progressive politicians think that in order to pick up middle of road voters, they have to act like Republicans. That strategy hasn't worked in the past and won't work in the future.

We compromised on welfare reform, trade, deregulation, and much more. He was still torn to shreds consistently in the media for stupid, pointless garbage. The right has been successful in portraying centrism as far left and fascism as conservatism and patriotism. It's a skewed, f*cked up point of view and like others have said, the rest of the world seems to see it.

Might as well stand by our actual principles completely and fully.
