I've never come home from a movie and immediately looked up reviews and synopses so that I could figure out what I just saw. It was indescribable. I don't usually like Roger Ebert's reviews, however, this time he nailed my point of view. I cannot recommend this movie and yet, I would discourage no one from seeing it. It's weird, it's slow, it's really, really quirky and it has a number of really big stars turning in performances. Notice I didn't say "good" or "bad" performances. I don't really know. I know I walked out of the theater suspecting that I didn't get it, wondering if others got it and suspicioning that there wasn't really anything to get exactly. Or not. You've got to wonder when the credits get the biggest laugh. It was funny though, what they did at the end. And it's true, Steve Zissou is a prominent attorney in New York.
Here's Ebert's synopsis and review.
