Mother Accused Of Taking Heroin To School For Son

FERNDALE, Mich. -- A woman is facing up to 20 years in prison after police said she tried to deliver a syringe full of heroin to her son at his suburban Detroit high school.

Police acting on a tip arrested Sheila Black outside Ferndale High School Tuesday.

The 41-year-old Metamora resident has been arraigned and will appear for a preliminary hearing scheduled next Thursday.

Detectives said Black told police her son had threatened to hurt himself if he didn't get the heroin, so she agreed to buy the drug in Detroit and bring it to him during his lunch hour.

Black has no criminal record but the court's probation department said she has mental health and substance abuse problems.
