I want to do a blog--Salon offers people the opportunity to pay for
having a blog sort of hosted by them. Seems pretty cheap. Do you know if other sites or do this?

Thanks!

1. blogs.com; blogspot.com
Ideally, you'll want to set it all up yourself. That way, if you get traffic, you can go commercial and sell advertising. This will take some tech savvy and a bit of money, but I've heard it's much better than having someone host it.

3. A simple google search offers any number of sites

www.blogger.com claims to be "free" and easy to setup.

I can't claim to know how free "free" is, or how good the service
is, but it can't hurt to try it out. Good luck.

and free (for the less visited sites at least). They have a small assortment of premade templates for html-impaired. You can have a blog up and running in a few minutes.

now? How hard is it to direct people to your blog? Would they find it easily?

Thanks again!

10. Free means free; it's completely free.
I've been blogging through them for two years. You don't even have to carry advertising; if you do, they pay you.

11. Thanks--do you find that you get a lot of traffic?
How can you advertise it? Other than bugging people here at the lounge?

12. I'm not desperate for visitors.
I just use my blog to vent, and to inform my friends about things I'm up to. I get 20-30 hits a day. If you want to advertise, then comment on other blogs and leave your URL; subtle is best. And get a unique selling point.

5. I use typepad
www.typepad.com

It ain't free, at least not after the first 30 days, but it's pretty cheap ($5/month).

14. I use blogdrive.com
They have templates you can use... and you can tweak them if you want, or if you are good with html, you can do it all yourself. Anyways, it's free, and I personally like it a lot.
