My Internet Explorer is now unusable.

My home page works. But when I try to go to another page I get a "page does not exist" error.

I am using Mozilla as a backup, thank god.

Anyone else with this problem?

Have you tried any anti-spyware apps?

IE sucks like a Hoover as far as I'm concerned. I'm on a dial-up at home, and Firefox loads much faster tahn IE ever did. I don't get all of those stupid errors that made me close iE either!

I got Java error after I downloaded a program. I can't open any shortcut now in IE. I use Netscape now.

A friend's computer genius nephew fixed me up with Mozilla Firefox, which is a vast improvement over IE. Don't go back.

Firefox is a easy download/install. Throw IE on the dustbin of history.

The computer genius first had to figure out what the hell had happened to my ability to access the internet. Damn computer was so effed up that it took him a while to be able to install Mozilla Firefox.

My mother's caregiver had downloaded some Polish porn crap...he had to delete a lot of junk from that and I would never have found it.

He earned a case of his favorite brews for that one.

Sometimes, browsers just flip out and lose track of the net connection. Shutting down and re-starting is the simplest way to try "re-finding" the connection.

I tried Mozilla/Firefox, and think they S U C K. You can't do anything without the program trying to second-guess you. Saving pages as MHT archives is impossible. And the editor window is ugly and messes up the view.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the Microsoft website, but it didn't work. I gave up and downloaded Netscape. I decided I liked Netscape better anyway. Even though my new computer has a fully functional IE, I tend to use Netscape.

I haven't bothered to even open Explorer. All it ever did is piss me off.

... Such as Norton, for example, make sure the SP2 firewall is disabled.

Go to your control panel and click on "Security Center," then scroll down to "Manage security settings for:" and click on "Windows Firewall."

If it's set to "on," click the button to set it to "off" -- this will allow your other firewall (again, assuming you have one) to be the default.

For whatever reason, having the SP2 and another firewall both "on" just makes IE quit the game entirely.

used adaware & spybot to look for what might be the problem. Since I started using firefox, I have hardly any malware on my computer when I run the checks..... I do not open IE unless I absolutely have to. I had this problem, it was a boot sector virus and I had to reformat. This type of behavior was the first symptom of the problem. I'm not saying this is your problem but it is possible.

Install and update it, and you could have saved the reformatting.

Could have a problem with the stack. If you have windows XP, try the following:

Insert your original XP disc in the CD then close the browser when it opens. Disable your virus scanner and any other active spy hunting software.

Open the command prompt by typing cmd in "run" from the start menu. Type "cd\enter" to get the C prompt. Then type sfc /purgecache (don't forget the space between sfc and the /) and let it run till it returns to the C prompt.

Then type sfc /scannow. When it's done it will have replaced any defective or corrupted files it finds. Remove cd, reboot. Run Windows update (which you should be doing regularly) and download the latest updates (EXCEPT SERVICE PACK 2). It will ask you to reboot after the updates are installed.

After rebooting, go to Accessories, system tools, system restore and create a new system restore point. Then go to disc cleanup, second tab, and delete all previous restore points. Defrag after you're done. 2 hours, just like a tune up.
