Who was the best SNL host and why? (No poll)
There are just too many to choose from to make a poll out of it.

Mine: Christopher Walken or Alec Baldwin. I just can't choose between the two.

You may have nailed it with Christopher Walken, though.

The best musical guest was Oasis, followed by Terence Trent D'Arby.

I loved Christopher Walken as "The Continental", and Alec Baldwin as the Boy Scout troop leader and on the radio show with his Schweaty Balls & Wieners.

6. Sir Ian McKellan
When he hosted, it was a genuinely funny 90 minutes. Sir Ian was, I discovered, quite deft at comedy. I never thought that this Shakespearean actor would be so good on SNL. :-)

10. I'll vote for Garth Brooks...
Alec Baldwin was awesome too, but he was an actor so I had to take some points away. One would never expect Garth Brooks to have been so natural and on point being a musician and all.

14. Richard Pryor, Walter Matthau, and Elliot Gould.

The first two had some of the funniest moments on television, and Gould was EXCEPTIONAL as a sketch player who fit right in with the cast.

George Carlin was very memorable, as well.

In later years, I have to go with two of the most unlikely to be hilarious, Garth Brooks and Al Gore. They were near perfect.

17. For the original cast
it's hard to beat Steve Martin. For subsequent eras it gets a little harder. They really have to be kept separate.

the winner of the Anyone Can Host contest. I just liked the concept.

I loved the Buck Henry/Elliott Gould/Steve Martin/Candace Bergen/Madeline Kahn shows. Funny as hell.
