Want to know how to have fun even on Valentine's day?
I've seen more and more angst on here lately about Valentine's Day. I understand. I went for YEARS hating that day. I kid you not, I did not have a good Valentine's Day until I was over 30. If I had been dating anybody we split just before VD hit, and it never failed that it'd come round and I'd be out someplace getting bombed off my ass and depressed.

Finally, one year, I was sitting with one of my buddies who was also a bitter refugee of the Hallmark Holidays, and we hit on the solution for the VD blues. We decided to throw a Valentine's Day Party Bash.

Thus a tradition was born.

We sent out invites that banned bringing a date, and we planned play lists of music devoted to bashing Cupid. We put up graffiti walls and started them off with "Reasons beer is better than Women" and "Things you can use to replace men."

The first year saw us too damn busy planning that party to worry about the fact that we had no lovers. Everyone who came went home drunk, and by all reports, a good time was had by all.

Year two saw us with an even larger play list of love sucks songs and even more graffiti. That was the year of the everclear punchbowl and the amazing Nurf Punch ball (it was a great game of Horse, BTW.) Our attendance was up by about 15 people.

Year three was the year we had sledding off the garage roof and two police visits.

I don't remember much about year four, but the hangover was a couple of days long.

Anyhow, my point is, that if you really hate this holiday, throw a party and celebrate the fact that you are single. Invite EVERYBODY you know and people you don't know but want to. Have fun, and make it YOUR holiday. You may find that planning the party takes your mind off the fact that this particular year does not find you on a date that particular night...

Also, remember that you ARE loved, even if you don't get laid all that often. If you are an evil DUer then you have any number of folks who love you here!
