1. Hydrocodone won't help a migraine
Get some Excedrin Migraine, really. Migraines are caused by contricted blood vessels. Hydrocodone won't help that.

4. Excedrin Migraine does absolutely nothing for my headaches
except keep me from sleeping.
What I really need are my migraine drugs, but I can't afford them and I don't have insurance till March 1.

10. I feel your pain
I get big nasty migraines, and most of time seem to not have insurance. Get off of the computer, get in a cold dark room, under a blanket with an ice bag on your head. Hope you feel better soon

17. Frozen veggie bag wrapped in a damp towel works better than ice.

my husband...Might want to consider going down to the hospital for a shot before you start throwing up. If 5 hasn't done it...Its not gonna get better. Hydrocodone is what the VA gives my husband for Migranes. So does the hospital after he gets a shot.

3. Are you wearing shades?
What kind of lights are you under? I know one thing, those smilies would've killed me if I had a migraine! :) And, did you try pressing the throbbing areas with your hands or lying down?

12. Did you have any caffeine?
That's one of the ingredients in the otc migraine meds. But, you've had so much medication already... When I have migraines regularly I had to wear shades to work at the computer. DU would've been too bright for me.

I've been there and hope it eases up soon. (like.....NOW!)

8. Ouch...
well, you CAN eat it instead of smoking it and get the same effect...only thing I've ever found that really did anything for my migraines.

9. I used to take a shot of something.....
whatever alcohol you can stand, & lay down with a cool cloth on your head in a dark room

The alcohol is a vasodilator to counteract the vasoconstriction that causes the migraine. The alcohol also might relax you enough to go to sleep. That was always my goal if I could get relaxed enough to go to sleep, it would usually go away.

I have to say, I don't miss them. I have a friend who still gets them & I feel so sorry for her every time.

14. What a combination
You're right I forgot you said you'd taken the hydrocodone. I always used to keep a few codeine tabs for emergencies. They helped me get to sleep most of the time. But I have had migraines that lasted a week or more. I can remember begging my Dad to take me to the hospital..
Good luck...I hope you feel better soon.

15. Madison ,
you might want to ask your Dr about Topamax. It's an anti seizure med that has been found to be very successful in reducing if not eliminating migraines for some people. Me included!

It's a maintenance drug, taken every night at bedtime.

16. We've talked about it
I chose a beta blocker and tricyclic combination over topamax which sounded a lot scarier- but its still an option.
No insurance till March 1, so I can't change anything till then.

19. I had a friend who used to have chronic migraines-it was allergies
She had Elvis' doctor, I swear. He put her on barbituates, strong ones, and she got hooked. They were very strong-she gave me one once for a gallstone attack, and I slept for 18 hours straight. She was popping them 2 or 3 at a time. I finally suggested to her to get allergy tests. She found she was allergic to soybeans, which are in pretty much all processed food. She eliminated that from her diet and she no longer had migraines.

This same doctor, while prescribing the barbs, also gave her a prescription for 50 darvocets after knee surgery, and a refill for 50 more, knowing he had already prescribed the barbs. Luckily, she didn't like the darvocets and gave them to her boyfriend, or she would have ended up getting her stomach pumped.

21. My husband gets terrible migraines.
One thing that often works is um...how does one put this delicately...reaching climax. :wow: I've heard from others that this has worked for them.

Caffeine can help too.
