1. Several years ago....
I listened to an interview with an author who had just written a book on the value of working with one`s hands. The author talked about how much he respected people who earned their living this way.

Wish you enjoyed your job more, but since you don`t, find something to do in your spare time that gives you satisfaction or joy. In the meantime, research other ways to make a living. Money isn`t everything. Good luck.

2. I once had a job making table legs.

As many legs as I made, every man, woman and child in the world ought to have 3 tables each!

3. Yes! Market Reserach Surveyor
The most boring-assed job in the world.

I sit there with headphones on all day, and get beeps in my ear when the dialer makes a connection, and I have to ask usually hostile people a shitpile of questions about shit they don't probably care about...god, it sucks!

I guess the only good thing is, between calls, I entertain myself by doing crosswords. Didn't used to be able to do that before the dialer...because I had to dial myself.

5. I got that beat.
I work in the press room at a newspaper. My job is to catch papers off the line in groups of 25 and put an order sheet on top of them. That shit is lame.

6. I maintain the email system for my husband's company
And watch about 5000 emails pass between the employees all day watching for viruses, spam. Dleting the viruses, bouncing the spam, fixing problems. I sleep from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. and the do it all over again, seven days a week, 365 days a year. I haven't had a day off in four years. I play a lot of spider solitaire.

10. It really isn't that bad
My computer is in the kitchen and I check the email log about every half hour. I cook while I am working and obviously go on DU. Although I could really use a vacation. But you know with this f'in economy, you got to do what you got to do. :)

It is way better than my last job as a general assignment reporter. Worked hundreds of hours each week and was paid for 35. Covering fires, accidents, crime scenes. Made money on other people's misfortunes. Took it for 14 years and called it quits. Too many nights out at 2 a.m. watching dead bodies pulled out of demolished cars. Too much friggin crying.

7. I once had a very boring job
It was in a book bindery - I stood on a raised platform and my function was to put books in boxes. I assembled a box, filled it with a certain number of books in a prescribed pattern, closed it and shoved it onto a conveyor belt. The other workers were too far away to talk to and the place was so noisy, you couldn't really talk anyway. Besides, you were paid by the piece so it made no sense to do anything but work as fast as you could.

It could have been stultifyingly boring but for me, it was not. Actually, I very rarely get bored and the reason is because I can live in my head. I would stand there and my brain would just whizz around, having all kinds of fascinating thoughts and fantasies, I'd make up stories and write dialogue in my head. I've always been able to keep myself entertained in that way, perhaps because I'm a writer. The great majority of my writing is done in my head - the part where I put it down on paper is the least time consuming aspect of it.

Sorry you're bored. I don't know if it's possible to train yourself to entertain yourself in your mind but you may want to give it a try. It works for me. :hi:
