Those AOL ads are for suckers
Yes, Friends...We at AOL will give you, Absolutaly Free..Virus Protection!! Only from AOL.."A better Internet"

Mmmmm..Let me see now..AOL is $23.95 per month so that's 12x$23.95 or
$287.40 per Year.

Netscape is $9.95 per month or $119.88 per year or $167.52 cheaper than AOL.

The best Virus protection (according to techs) is NOD32 which sells for 39.95 and 20 bucks per year

SO

Get Netscape, Buy your own damn anti-virus and save $127.57 per year.

1. FWIW, Netscape is AOL anyway
Same dialup servers, same dialin numbers, same bandwidth. You just lose access to the "AOL Branded" content.

2. When I got my first home computer, maybe 10 years ago...
...I was working at Pacific Bell. I asked my boss about an ISP, he said "Pacific Bell. They OWN the phone lines. It doesn't MATTER who you pick, you will still be receiving your Internet service over Pacific Bell phone lines."

He was RIGHT.

BUT...when you are a new customer, Pac Bell (now known as SBC Yahoo) makes an appointment, and it might be a week or two or more out.

But I was livin' the DREAM...I had a HOME COMPUTER, and I wanted to SURF...NOW, dammit!

So, I clicked the desktop icon for AOL that came pre-installed on the computer I had at the time (a Sony) and signed up.

I SURFED, but in many ways, it sucked. I kept the Pac Bell appointment, have been their customer ever since, and killed the AOL.

And, ten years and one change of address later, I still get CDs in the mail asking me to "come back to AOL," promising me a gazillion free hours.

To quote Ed McMahon, "YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR!"

AOL is for suckers, newbies, moms 'n' dads who only check their e-mail, etc. etc, etc.

:toast:
