I am watching Moulin Rouge
I still can't get over Nicole Kidman in it. She was not only amazingly beautiful but also both sang and acted flawlessly. Just astonishing.

1. My favorite movie!
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 05:43 PM by Revolutionary_Acts04
I've seen it way too many times. I know it forwards and backwards. :)

They both(her and Ewan McGregor, although I'm very partial to him :loveya:) were amazing in it. They sang, acted, and looked gorgeous. :D

3. I had forgotten how good Ewan was
He was a little weak on the first few numbers but Come What May is unbelievable as was the later number where the Duke gets hit by the black man (I am unsure of the title but Roxanne was one of the songs).

4. Yeah Roxanne and then what Ewan sings is just something that
Baz Luhrmann wrote, I think. It's just a few lines...

"His hands upon your face,
his hand upon your hand,
his lips caress your skin,
It's more than I can stand.

Why does my heart cry?
Feelings I can't fight.
You're free to leave me,
but just don't deceive me,
and please believe me when I say I love you."

5. Yeah that is it
His sence of rythum there was nothing short of flawless. You could set a metronome by him. Plus his tone fit perfectly what his character was feeling. Awesome.

and it cemented my love for Nicole. She's the greatest living movie star (which is quite different from being an actress).

9. Well, this friend agrees with you
I despised that movie. I like to think that I have my romantic side, but it was nauseating to the extreme. Plus, I just didn't care that much about the "these people living in the 1890's singing songs by Elton John and Madonna" schtick.

19. My daughter convinced me to watch it a second time
and I ALMOST really liked it because after getting past the movie messing with the time-space continuum I was able to appreciate the music and costumes Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor really were amazing.

Viewing it a third time might get me all the way to enjoying the actual story, but I'm not masochistic enough to try.

May I say in my defense that just today, I was listening to a new favorite cd, John Barrowman's "Swinging Cole Porter"? A gay man...singing songs composed by a gay man? It's quite gay, actually.

Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 10:48 AM by Atlas Mugged
That's all I've seen of it, and I was immediately repelled.

So what if I'm gay, and don't care for it, anyway? As for clothes, I'm wearing D&G and Custo as I type, and I'm flying out to see The Gates Project this week. Just becase I don't like 3 minutes of a movie enough to bother seeing the rest of it, I can't sleep with men anymore?

Just assume there's a stupid little smiley face here so no one takes great offense ------>

I hate those things, too.

17. What about it?
Do you hate that they use modern songs in a period musical? I know that bothered a lot of people. Do you hate musicals in general? The frenetic pace? The simple story line? I just got swept away in the spectacle of the whole thing. To me, it's an experience. Tear it apart and maybe the pieces aren't the best, but it comes together so beautifully.

I can't abide with something which could have been a glorious musical (and as a film buff I was extremely psyched by the beauty of it) cheapened it with tawdry modern references!

A horrible, horrible, horrible film. Even my ex-girlfriend, whose favorite films consisted of Pretty Woman, Titanic, Love Don't Cost a Thing, Drumline, etc. thought it was rotten.

I'd rather watch Showgirls than that piece of crap again.

I gotta make up for two years of niceness!

You're a grumpy harridan and your dog is ugly and your children are decidedly below-average in charm and intelligence. Your choice of presidential candidates is sub-par and I suspect your choice of hair conditioner is abysmal.

30. I didn't like it either...
and I earlier declared my love of drag queen movies on another thread, so I seriously doubt it has to do with my straightness.....

I think it was the use of popular music in a musical; and cheesy picks to boot! Why didn't they just WRITE the songs? That's just tacky and lame. The film was visually breathtaking but the story seemed dumb to me, lots of musicals have dumb stories....but really great music. Oh well....

38. Well, I was just swept away by it. I wish I had seen it in the
theatre, but we did not see it until we rented it, then we watched it 5 times before it had to go back, which pretty much seals it.

We own it, and "Ballroom Dancing" and "Romeo & Juliet" as a boxed set.. The Red Curtain Trilogy...all Baz Luhermann (sp) movies.

I got a kick out of the juxtaposition of the songs and the period, and
was totally blown away by the singing !!!!!!
