A-hole Redneck Comedy Tour Part 2.
I saw this last night - the Redneck Comedy Tour Movie Part 2 on Comedy Channel. I thought the first movie was hilarious, so I was looking forward to this one. Well, I found that it was only mildly amusing - even Ron White, who I really like, wasn't that great.

But what really threw me was at the end, the fellows were doing jokes together on the stage. They did a bit called "I Believe" where they would take turns saying something funny. Ex: Larry the Cable Guy said "I believe that guns don't kill people - husbands who come home early kill people". Har Har, right? Pretty lame, but not offensive.

It gets to Jeff Foxworthy (who I have always enjoyed -even though his redneck schtick is getting a little trite) and he says "I believe that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone, you must be talking about Hillary Clinton".

I honestly felt gob-smacked. The reference to HRC was apropos of nothing, there had been no discussion of politics at all by any of them. It just came out of the blue, and was so gratuitous. I was astonished. And of course the crowd in Denver goes crazy - cheering, applause, etc.

Now I've always assumed that these fellows were likely Bush supporters, with the exception of maybe Ron White, who is from Texas and seems pretty intelligent. But as far as I could tell, they kept their politics out of their acts. I mean, half the country votes Democratic - why alienate so many fans? I was truly offended by this, although I guess I shouldn't be, with the state of discourse as it is in this country. But it's kinda sad when you can't watch a bunch of rednecks making fun of themselves without them bringing up the evil Hillary.

:wtf: is up with this?

1. Saw it on DVD...
The only thing that makes up for it is when Larry the Cable guy did the joke on Dr. Laura, hell even rednecks can't stand her. But mostly it was non-offensive stuff, if you like that sort of thing, and yes the first one was WAY better.

3. Yeah, I appreciated the Dr. Laura joke.
I was surprised it came from Larry the Cable Guy.

10. Yeah, a funny bit that actually doesn't involve poop or pissing yourself
the usual stuff from the "conservative" Bushsucker . . .

(or did it involve poop?)

2. Well, Bunny, see my (largely disagreed-to) rant on Ron White here

I tuned out of the singalong right before Foxworthy's turn, so I was spared that uncalled-for (and rather dated) remark - it sounds like something he might have had in his act in 1994, when Hillary was making waves on a national level. Again, he might have just been pandering to his redneck audience, who still cannot get over the fact that we had Democrats in the WH for 8 years.

Of the four guys, I like Foxworthy's schtick the best, and find him genuinely funny at times. His political views disappoint me, but GOD THAT SHOW IS JUST NOT FUNNY. Ron White and Larry are squandering precious oxygen, as far as I'm concerned.

6. Well, I saw your thing yesterday on Ron White, and I didn't respond
because I think the guy is hilarious, and I hate it when we disagree! (:P nyuk, nyuk). Larry the Cable Guy is worthless, I'll go along with that.

It was just the total out-of-the-clear-blue-sky-ness of that "joke" about HRC that really threw me. It is extremely dated.

12. He could have at least updated it to "Michael Moore" or something...
...if he wanted to get a liberal-bash in.

Referring to HRC is just another clinker in an evening of (air quotes) "humor" (/air quotes) :)

4. Redneck "humor", what do you expect...................
I find all of their stuff insipid and regressive. The further "dumbing down" of America. Simple, sophomoric humor for simple sophomoric people. Let's drag everyone down to OUR level of simplistic, bathroom humor. :eyes:

As soon as I saw this "comedy tour" advertised, I knew exactly what would be involved so I made it a point to avoid it like the plague. It seems I wasn't wrong is my assessment.

9. Call BR-549!
Didn't he and Lulu do a lot of drugs in those days? Hee Haw was a pretty funny show, actually. In it's own way, of course.

13. I loved Hee-Haw. Dad was a big fan so it was on every week.
He's an 'old-school' country music guy: Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, etc.

I really learned to like the humor - my brothers and I thought 'BR-549' was the funniest bit ever. ;)

5. Sometimes I wonder if we'er all getting a bit thin skinned
If they had made a joke about bush, cheney, etc. would you have laughed like crazy? These guys are just comedians, not politicians. It is doubtful whether they have any bearing on how people vote and they are entitled to their own opinions, as we all are. I happen to like some rock bands who are considered as non pc here in DU and I don't really care. I guess if one doesn't like what the comedians are saying, don't watch them, attend any of their shows or buy any of their merchandise. Seems pretty simple to me, but then I am a simple man.

7. If it was relevant to anything, it may have been less offensive.
But HRC is simply a Senator from NY, she's not the First Lady anymore. It's just so OLD to have the Hillary jokes again. At least Bush and Cheney are currently holding national offices.

14. In other words, a bunch of washed-up/never-was comedians
massaged a joke in order to suckup to the crowd.

11. Then turn the channel
>And of course the crowd in Denver goes crazy - cheering, applause, etc.

So he was entertaining his audience, VERY WELL, by your account. What's wrong with that? Was he saying we should kill the Jews or drag homosexuals from the back of our pickup?

How can we defend the Dixie Chicks and then turn around and criticize Foxworthy when, unlike Natalie Maines, apropos to his performance, he WAS telling a joke, AND it WORKED.

I'm no big fan of Hillary, but I'm able to put my redneck hat on and enjoy a show.

If you listened about 70% of those redneck jokes are telling how much they're all stupid, so if they can lighten up, so can I.

ANYWAY, I saw Hillary digging that "Let the Eagle Soar" song by Ashcroft, can't we just enjoy ourselves?
