I've been at my job for a month today and I realize that I hate it

I used to work in a different department, then I left for a year because I had no benefits through my contracting agency. Came back to a department where I still see all old buddies, but work with different people. I do have benefits through my contracting agency, though the pay isn't wonderful.

One coworker trashes the other behind his back. But the real problem is that the supervisor is a jerk and has no idea how to be a supervisor. He spends a lot of time just standing around in our workspace, even when we don't have much to do. He manages my work in laborious detail and it really annoys me. When I worked here before I asked for help when I needed it and the rest of the time they left me to do my job.

The supervisor is also pretty cold. Ignores a lot of things, doesn't say how are you after you've had a sick day. Basically I think he is a cold arrogant prick.

I wish it weren't so hard to find a decent permanent job- its been 4 years since I lost my last one.

I lost my last decent permanent job almost a year ago, when my existing company lost a contract. the new company recruited all of us to come work for them, doing the same basic job...and led us all to believe we would make the same or more, with them...than we had been.

Turns out they LIED, and snookered us all into a 3 dollar an hour pay cut!! So I walked out. Haven't had health insurance, a permanent job...or a decent job since...because this economy fucking sucks!

Although it sucks a little less now than it used to a couple of years ago. Being a contractor they want you to have tons of experience and skills but not expect to learn anything new or get a raise or speak up about things that bug you. This company uses contractors because they are cheaper than employees and they don't give a hoot about us.

I had no health insurance for 3 years, and I know, its awful.

i just wish it were permanent :( it still could be, but not knowing for sure is killing me.....it could end this week x(

one thing i love about them is that they are all pretty nice...there is some drama, but for the most part they are great and just joke around a lot.

It dose sound like my job, or my nightmare. Hey you found out that you hat your job in one month. I am a slow learner it has taken me 19 years. I realize that it is not the job, but the fools I work with that are driving me crazy.

It is some of the people that I work with.

As a supervisor my staff always knew my expectations, I did not look over their shoulder but expected them to follow the written expectations. I always felt my looking over their shoulder proved that I did not trust them and proved they were not capable. So, I gave them leeway. Well, they felt a supervisor should be there all the time, so go figure. I would walk in the room, ask if they needed anything, demanded they take their breaks and lunches and always asked them what would make them happier? The word came back to me if I appeared they felt intimidated.

I was understanding regarding sick time, leaving early and coming in late. When I look back at it, maybe I gave them too much freedom. It is difficult being a supervisor.

But I always treated people like adults (even the ones who who barely adults and didn't act like it yet). And I've always treated people with respect. The way this is going- he never says ANYTHING positive to me. He looks over everything I do, and points out any little thing that is not the way he wants it. I'm talking helpdesk tickets here- I've closed thousands of them in the last few years without comment, and now I am being critiqued on every one. He loves to point out things I've done wrong- often something I did for a customer that I could have passed off to another group to do.

Because I know other people in the area they sometimes come over to chat when I am not doing anything. He just shows up and hangs out, just to break it up. He stands there and does annoying things like swing his badge around over and over. I begin to wonder why he doesn't have anything better to do.

My last supervisor at this company would never have done any of these things- he trusted me. I think this guy is brand new at being a supervisor and he thinks he is doing the right thing by establishing tight control and being highly impersonal. Instead he makes me feel like a piece of equipment.

I don't know what their policy on this is, but the agency that we get temps from allows this. Some of our temps ask for different assignments and disappear, still working through that agency. Every agency has a different policy. You could always ask though.
Personally, I hate my job too, but I need pay and benefits at this point. They pay me just enough to keep me there.

I knew I hated it by lunchtime of the first day.
